Anyone toured Oman?

Not the most popular cycle destination and not much out there on it. I read some stuff over at Crazyguyonabike but found the reports weren't really that informative. I've read it's safe, pretty empty with generally good shouldered roads and friendly people. I suppose I'd be looking for a good route i.e. is it better riding through the interior or the along the coast? I could do both of course if it's worth it! I am planning to fly into Dubai and cycle around there either a round trip or take the bus one way. I have no time limit really and I'm a confident wildcamper and cyclist. So if you've been there I would love to hear from you!

Best wishes
Ross

Have you seen this from last year?:

Why Oman deserves a Spot on your Bicycle Touring Bucket List - Worldbiking.info

This made me chuckle:

"Sadly, Oman ranks among the world’s deadliest countries for road fatalities. Omanis are not particularly conscientious drivers and have a fast and furious driving style. We felt safe enough on Oman’s roads, but maybe that’s because we’d just come from India."

I was surprised when a friend non-bike toured Dubai & Bahrain but she reported it was quite interesting & fun. Oman might be interesting for folks who think Baja is a bit tame, seems surprisingly cheap. Reminds me of the Zambia-Botswana bike-tour blogger who helped puncture stereotypes--he flew to Africa, bought a decent cheap used bike & rode solo thru Zambia & Botswana on flip-flops. Folks were friendly, crime level below many USA cities. Plenty of wild camping spots plus numerous expats happy to host.
