Due to family obligations and scheduling I’m only able to go bikepacking for a single night only, usually on Saturdays. And I’ve been doing this about twice monthly, on average, for quite some time now. Usually, I’m with a small group of bikepackers, but often, I go solo as well. Most of my trips are out and back, at local trail camps, usually accessible only by fire roads or single track foot trail. And on occasion we’ll do a road trip up or down the coast and camp at one of several State Beaches, at their hiker/biker campsite.
My all terrain bike has mountain bike gearing, running a 1x drivetrain, rear panniers, frame bag, and a front roll bag.
So, does anyone else here do something similar?

I generally use single overnight out and back trips in order to sort out new equipment or make sure everything is working properly before a longer tour, but then they can sure be fun in their own right.

When away for a single night, the weather and subsequent gear choice is usually simpler. I don’t bother with cooking gear.

I have a number of friends who live 50-80 kms away from me, which is a perfect excuse for an overnighter.

S24O (sub 24-hour overnighter) is a thing. Look it up--there are plenty of others doing it bikepacking. I do it on hiking trips.

I never do much less than a week at a clip with the bike. Anything less than that I just do day rides. I have done a few overnight hikes though.

Its a busy past couple years with family, so I have done multiple 1 day trips, mostly with one of my kids. I dont see this changing for another few years, so more weekend 1 day trips are in my future.
I do hope to take a week next year, but if that doesnt happen, I am happy to try out new campgrounds around my state.

I love and enjoy brewing coffee & cooking up a hot meal, and being a stove junkie, I always carry my cook set.

I also do a lot of single nite backpacking with local Meetup groups, but often, if the campground is accessible by bike I’ll bikepack and meet them at camp.

Yeah, sometimes an overnight out&back to a state park and sometimes I take the morning train out further and two days/one night back.

My one-night cycletours are never as short as 24 hours.

I’ve done several. Some out and back to a state park in PA. Some to a NJ state park. I’ll take a local train to avoid the Camden area, ride to the park for a night, and then ride to and up the coast to Atlantic City for the train home. Usually, though, I will make those three-day trips, spending both nights at the same parks and doing day rides on Saturdays. (I get 5 weeks of vacation, so taking a Friday off here and there is not an issue.)

I find such trips rejuvenating, especially because they start and end at my door. No travel headaches.

My residence is within 50 miles of four TX state parks. Summer is too hot for me, but spring and fall are peak season. These past years I've been in the habit of a going for a weekend on 2 or 3 weekends each spring and 2or 3 weekends each fall.

During the pandemic I got to know some of my neighbors better and suggested they could join me at the state park on Saturday night as something we could do outdoors.

That has evolved to a park get together once or twice each spring and once or twice each fall. I'm the only one cycling. One or two others camp overnight. A few others join us for the afternoon/evening.

I'm a hard core credit card style tourer - often do two day/one night or three day two night road/trail rides on my Jamis Renegade what these days would be called a grave bike (with 1x SRAM drivetrain) bikepacking style, with a Revelate rollup saddle bag and a half height frame bag.

Last one was Pittsburgh PA to Cumberland MD on the Great Allegheny Passage trail, one night stay in Confluence. A few years ago used the same setup for a three day, two night Venice FL to Palatka FL ride mostly on road but a long stretch on the Van Fleet (paved) trail.

Saturday morrning to Sunday afternoon. 100 mile max each way, usually 50-80 miles each way. Out and back makes the most sense where I live. Most of the year I don't even need a sleeping bag or a cook set. Ultralight tent, sleeping pad, sleep sheet, credit card and some cash. Usually take some food that does not need cooking and hit convenience stores during the cycling part. 50 miles is almost too easy unless it's above 95*F prediction. Want to get to the campground shade and pool ASAP.
