before anyone says it i know saddles are a personal choice, problem is i dont know very much about a period correct saddle for this bike. i mainly ride fizik saddles and dont think a fizik would look right on it. just curious of some brands and models that might of been on a late 70's colnago super. thanks

I recall the previously mentioned San Marco Rolls being on a lot of bikes in the early to mid 80's, so wouldn't be too out of place.
For period appropriate appearances, you can't go wrong with a Brooks, though. The Team Pro with large copper rivets always looks great. (C'mon you had to know one of us Proofide™ slathering leather fetishists would jump in with that suggestion)

thanks for the selections, i really like the san marco regal and the brooks team pro. my bike is blue with yellow decals. yellow cables and cloth tape. my hoods are the light brown gum, how would a light brown regal or team pro look? i'm kinda liking the ideal.

Yup. This is what I prefer on my Italian bikes and I also have it on my Paramount. I like the looks and they fit my personal butt geometry very well. The Turbo is another pretty nice option.

I normally say go with matching colors on bars and wraps, and Tom's saddle is sweet.

But matching all of these yellow colors is dicey.

It doesn't always look right, like almost too much of a good thing.

What you could do is go with your yellow bar wrap, yellow housing, and a black saddle.

If you stick with a black saddle you could use so many of these offered choices.

Out of your listed choices, I'd just order a black Regal and be done with it.

If they fit right, that decides it.

Late 70's/early 80's? period correct?? = Concor Supercorsa or Superleggera. That would be my top choice for a bike like yours. I believe the Turbos came in during the early 80's, so that's #2. You can maybe also consider a Unicanitor, but I don't think those even approach the comfort you get from Turbos and Concors.
The Regal and and Rolls came out more towards the mid 80's, so those would be #3
Don't know about the Regals though, There's so many cheap knock-off of that saddle being sold out there that you don't know whether you're looking at a Regal of not most of the time. The nice rivets do add a bit of weight as the saddle is heavier than both the Turbo and the Concor, maybe approaching or matching the Roll's weight which was always considered not a lightweight saddle. Kinda surprising considering the compact looks of the Regal.....unless you invest in a Ti railed version that gets you closer to Concor saddle weights....

Well, here's the other part of this equation.

When I was racing my Supers, I couldn't have cared less about saddle comfort.

We weren't on Sunday joy rides.

Some raced on various Concors, but many of us were on Unicantors.

That's what I raced on when I was young, fast, and skinny.

As for a Regal, most of the guys I ride with now are on ti Regals or ti Flites.

Saddle of choice for us, and a great choice for many.

I'm partial to Concors on most of my bikes, but the odd 3ttt gets a nod, too. Either would be period correct; just depends on the aesthetic you want.

Love Brooks, but for me personally, not on a Colnago. A modified (in the Ottussi style) Brooks on a mid 60's Italian race bike a big yes, anything else, meh...

I have tried 2:

Flite came on the bike when I bought it used. I had a Brooks Pro from 1973 that I put on.... can't find the pic. The Flite is good for about 30 miles. The Brooks is good for who only knows. it is more than twice as heavy but far more comfortable. the other change is the pedals to SPD's. I need to find a decent pair of Campy SL's. Yes, I guess the Unicanitor is very period appropriate for the bike. Although the Unicanitor looks good in an "Ideale 2001-2 saddle" sort of a way. But why settle for just OK looks when you can get a more dynamic, "sexier" look from a Concor or Regal saddle.
I'm sure the Italian builders of that Colnago will also appreciate it very much too!

Turbo and Rolls are both from the 80's, same thing for the Regal. In the 70's I never once saw any Colnago that had anything other than an Italian saddle, so Brooks is out of the question if you want to be period correct.

The Concor, was the "in" saddle for fashionisti when it came out. It was launched in late 1978 at the end of the year trade shows, but didn't show up on bikes until 1979 and I don't remember seeing it in North America until 1980. The colored versions of the Concor also came out at about the same time. The most commonly seen saddles in the late 70's were 3TTT, Unicanitor, Selle Italia, Iscaselle. Selle Royal.
