Newbie clyde from the bay
Haven't really ridden bikes since I was a kid but I'm in the process of losing weight and getting in shape. Cycling seemed like a great way to accomplish my goal while having a lot of fun and maybe meeting some new friends as a benefit.
I'm 5'11" and currently weigh 245, and only started working out about a week ago, so I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to pick for a first bike. Visited a couple local LBS's and was either unimpressed by the staff or couldn't decide what I wanted to get.
At first I was leaning towards a CX since I figured it would handle my weight and be more versatile, and the LBS I decided to go with was mainly a Trek shop so they had the Crossrip and the Crockett to choose from. The Crockett was very nice, but a tad out of my price range with the extra gear I'd need to buy to start riding. Almost went with the Crossrip, but I figured I should get a road bike instead and buy a better CX or mountain bike later for off road, since my main goal right now is fitness.
So after a few days of jogging to my local LBS and having to jog back since I didn't purchase anything, I managed to get the same deal they were offering on the '13 Madone 2.1's on a '14! I've had it for 2 days now, and my butt is starting to finally let me ride the thing for a few minutes without feeling like I'm riding an it from south park.

welcome to BF.
A pair of cycling shorts can go a long way towards saddle comfort.
nice bike, ride safe.
