GRX 2X10 question.
I’m thinking of just running 2x10 road gearing on my disc road bike that I’m building.
The reason is that the Industry 9 Torch rear hub is the previous version and not 11 speed road compatible. Apparently Shimano is making a “Tiagra” level 2x10 mechanical/hydraulic shifter set called the GRX ST-RX400. I don’t really see it for sale as a set although I do see where you can purchase a left and a right separately.
I’m curious if anyone knows the specifics of this GRX ST-RX400 set? I would be wanting to run a pretty typical 2x10 road setup such as a 52/36 mid compact crank and a 12-25 10-speed road cassette. Is this doable? I don’t really plan to do any real gravel riding but I need the functionality of the hydraulic mechanical shifters for hydraulic road disc and mechanical 2x10 road shifting.
Perhaps there is a a better option in a road hydraulic brake/mechanical shift 2x10?
Also, is anyone aware of any on-line retailers who might have a competitive price on the GR ST-RX400 shifter/brake caliper left/right set? I get the impression that this version might be for OEM to hit a certain price point. I just need some nice 10 speed road shifters since I’m building my wheelset around an Industry 9 Torch (mountain) hub in a 12x142 through axle disc road bike configuration where I will be limited th 28mm tires.
Thanks for any suggestions you all might have for me.

First, are you aware you can run the most recent versions of 11-speed 105 and Ultegra cassettes on a 10-speed hub? You just leave the included spacer off.
The 10-speed version of GRX is 105-level. I think a large part of what GRX is supposed to provide is the option of smaller cranks (52/36 is not conventionally called mid-compact, fwiw), so if you don't have that need, you might be better off with an 11-speed 105 (or Ultegra) groupset.
universalcycles dot com and jensonusa dot com might be worth checking. I got my (11 speed) GRX crank there, which works fine with my otherwise Ultegra setup, FWIW. Be aware that GRX has a +3mm chainline relative to road cranks. If you are limited to 28 mm tires, you might not need that extra chainline. (I didn't need it with the same size hub and 40mm tires).

Shimano R7020 for $600. As said earlier, the 11-34 cassette will work on a a 10 spd mtb hub.

That’s a good value on the groupset.
I’m not sure that the 11-34 eleven speed cassette that runs on a 10 speed freehub body is the direction I want to go.
I’m still wanting more info on the GRX 2 x 10 shifters.

You can convert your hub to 11 speed road. Not cheap at $190

Yeah, Maybe since the Torch hub has been updated, the retail outlets (Colorado Cyclist, Jensen USA) will put some of these desirable upgrade parts on clearance.
I notice that they sell a stainless steel freehub body shell. Is this so you swap all the parts from your original freehub body?

I would keep looking around, deals pop up every so often. You are right that with the release of the hydra hub that the torch stuff might become more budget friendly. But since you are looking for an 11 speed road freehub which isn't as common as the 10 spd or XD drivers it may be hard to find a deal.

The stainless freehub is more durable but heavier than the aluminum version. Swap the pawls and springs over, install the appropriate through axle end cap and you are good to go.

This might be the first time Ive read an entire group is being chosen based on a rear hub. Unique place to start.

I love my Dura Ace 7400, 7403, and 7700 wheel sets. But this Industry 9 set just seems too cool to not build it.

Here you can see the orange anodized wheel parts that I am quite certain will add visual punch to a matte grey titanium muted titanium disc compact road frame build:
The 6 bolt rotor mount allowed me to spec whatever rotors I wanted. I’m going to try these “Alpine” ones I found.
Attached with classy looking titanium torx T25 bolts.
And here you see the Velocity Aileron rims just begging to be built up ASAP to the adjacent Industry 9 28f, 32r 12mm through axle hubs.

that blue and orange could come out sharp. Looking forward to seeing the build.
Probably nicer than this purdy $15K purple Titanium bike (I like the bike, but 15k?)
