Just received this tandem, never dealt with electric assist before. What do I have, make and model. It has 3 12v batteries. Don't know much it.

How many wires going into it (2 is brushed, 3 or 8 is brushless)? That is a clue.

2 wires I believe, will check in the morning. I had the tandem up to 26 mph, didn't think electric bikes could go that fast. It was starting to make a strange noise so I turned it off and pedaled home. It was making a noise that could be described as metal brushing metal. Could it be that it needs to be lubed, I don't see no ports for lube to be added. This is all new to me. I welcome any help, suggestions or random insights.

I was wrong, it has 5 wires coming off motor. Rode it 10 miles all electric assist, no pedaling averaged 17 mph. No noise coming from hub this time.

5 wires should be the Hall connectors. There should be an additional 3 phase wires, for a typical brushless hub motor. It looks something like a Crystalyte 40x series, or an Aotema, in general appearance.
