Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

thanks, you too. I got it at a shop in Oklahoma, where they're all racing on Orbeas this year. A buddy of mine has an XLR8R and loves it. I love my ride. Incredibly (I mean well beyond any aluminum/carbon frame incredibly) smooth, but still as stiff as my old CAnnondale in the bottom bracket. Guess that semi compact geometry and some good tubing will do wonders. They only had the Euskaltel paint; I wanted something else but, like you, didn't want to wait until now to get the bike. Been on her for a month and just started doing two a days this week. Great, great bike.

Glad to see these raves for Orbea's XLR8R frameset. I'm picking mine up tomorrow, also in Euskatel blue/orange.

Shhh, don't tell Specialized.

I like that paint on your Orbea it looks great. I wish I could have gotten that color. I looked at the 2004 Orbea Website and the new models look awesome. I could never convince my wife to let me buy another one at least for a few years. My new one is about 2 months old. I love it, very fast and climbs great.

Hello from Princeton,

I ride a 1997 Cannondale Silk Road w/ Full Ultegra Upgrade

I'm in the process of going from 265lbs to 180lbs. When I finally lose the weight, I'll either get a Trek 5200 or a Giant TCR Composite as a reward (not to mention my health).

I just purchased my wife a 2003 Specialized S-Works E5 Road Frameset (Team Zebra) with Full Ultegra. She's been riding around in a very old allez sport that I always tease her that the bike is too heavy for the bike rack on top of the car.

I always like to see the variety of bikes that are out there. Where I used to live, once someone go hooked on a brand everyone started to buy that brand. First it was bianchi, then cannondale, from what I've heard I think it's now Trek.

C ya on the road.

Thanks, newboy. Here are some more pics for all fellow cycling enthusiasts:

EPX 303 carbon

1980 Austro-Daimler Vent Noir

No braze-ons!

Reynolds 531 50th Anniv. decal (1935-85) Wrote them and they sent it to any 531 owner back in '85. Frame will need to be repolished.

1983 Univega Super Strada

Dura Ace AX groupo with DynaDrive pedals. The BB axle got pitted after a few years (bad shop adjustment?). Wrote to Shimano in '86 and then customer relations chief Wayne Stetina (pioneer of U.S. road racing) sent a new one. What a cool guy!

Selle Italia perforated Super Turbo (cool but heavy).

ENJOY!

Almost a month ago now I purchased a black Giant OCR3 '04.
My first ever roadie and I'm lovin it. Soon realised I'd been killing myself trying to get into shape on my barge MTB.

Dont have a pic yet, but in this sort of company its probably not worth posting it!

cyfac

i am in the process of purchasing a custom cyfac starship elite, for pics go to

https://www.veloeuropa.com/framesets/elite/index.html

it will be built with a fsa carbon seatpost, a fsa titanium bb, fsa carbon pro cranks, and fsa carbon handlebars; speedplay x1 pedals, a flite gel saddle ... and ultegra components :\ can't win em all, and *certainly* can't afford to upgrade the groupo after buying such a sick frame!

i will post pics when it's built, should be around january or so after everything's taken care of.

Those Litespeed cycles are very nice indeed. But at $4885 (Australian dollars) for the titanium Veneto with shimano 105 running gear - you gotta be kidding.

Here's a pic of my road bike. I'm new to the forums and am sort of using this to learn how to attach files, etc.

A great day to all!

Put in the first 75 miles on my new Aegis Victory (25 saturday 50 Sunday) it rides like a dream (for pic see page 22) and climbs beautifully, some minor adjustments still to do to get it exactly right, unfortunately Winter is now upon us so I won't be putting many more miles on it this year, it's back to my hack bike for a while, can't wait for next summer, as I will be going time trialing for the first time so I can really test myself.

It's a great bike. Very smooth and a great climber. The carbon forks and stays make a world of difference in comfort.

Bert,

Beauty of a bike, but watch the gearing. You have it pretty high in the cluster for being in the big chain ring.
