It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Need component help building flat bar gravel bike

A friend is looking to build a Trek Checkpoint SL6 frame into a flat bar gravel bike. He's interested in building it with a 1x drivetrain with a GRX 800 crank, GRX rear derailleur, and XT shifter/brake levers, if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciate it.

Why not use a XT derailleur? I think that would be your main issue with compatibility.

Agreed, absent something like a Travel Agent, this is not possible. It would be great if Shimano made the pull ratio the same on their mountain and road derailleurs (again), but they don't for some reason.

Bikes: Co-Motion Cappuccino Tandem,'88 Bob Jackson Touring, Co-Motion Cascadia Touring, Open U.P., Ritchie Titanium Breakaway, Frances Cycles SmallHaul cargo bike. Those are the permanent ones; others wander in and out of the stable occasionally as well.

Agreed as well.

And you may find that frames built for drop bars are quite different than ones for straight bars so things wind up in the wrong places i the cockpit if you change bars without making some pretty drastic changes to the stem... Some of these conversions work out but most I see do not work out well...
