Summer 2007 - Your Touring Plans
So ..... where are you planning to tour/travel during the summer (or spring, or fall) of 2007?
In April, there is a Randonneuring series on Vancouver Island, which is being run sort of like a tour ... but with really, really long cycling days. I don't know if I'll be able to get there or not, but I've got my eye on it.
In May, I'm hoping to do a short tour in the Canadian Rockies (the Golden Triangle) ... that one should be no trouble to get to as it is practically in my own back yard.
In August, I'm hoping to do a longer tour (a few weeks) in Europe. I'm not sure where exactly in Europe, except that France will be a part of it ... we'll just wing the rest!
In September, there might be a brief trip to Iowa.

We're planning a 600 or so mile loop tour in Indiana. Lafayette to over by Cincinnati to Evansville, along the Ohio River. Planned state park stops like Clifty Falls,a couple three rest days in Madison, Indiana. That kind of thing. This will be the wifes first ever bike tour!

May, June, July: I hope to do 3 or 4 mini tours to area state parks and friends houses to try out my equipment and prepare for my epic adventure later in the summer.
June: I'm a volunteer baggage handler for the Missouri DNR's Katy Trail ride in June, and since I need to be on the other side of the state to start my volunteer gig, I plan to do a solo trail ride to get there.
August: savage24's epic adventure! Pacific coast, Seattle to San Francisco.
September: Chestertown, New York - Savage Fest! (a weekend gathering for collectors of the Savage model 99 rifle and all things Savage) Not bike related, but it's travel.

My friend & I are planning the Lewis & Clark route starting from SeaSide OR in September. If that doesn't pan out we will pedal the coast again. Everything else will be training for that.

A tour of the Erie Canal, then the Rideau canal and maybe the Eastern Townships and hopefully a month long tour of Pacific Mexico. I guess I had better start planning.

I just want to take a second to say: I hate you all.
If I'm lucky I'll get a few weekend tours in around here. *sighs*

Now these guys seem to have it together. i heard about it through a couple of members that were riding through town loaded. (their bikes were loaded they were still sober) I bot them pie and coffee and gave them some local route options and they thoughtfully suggested i look into their web place. it's all good.

Southern Tier
Just six more weeks before we leave from San Diego enroute to St. Augustine Florida. My riding buddy and I will take 8 to 9 weeks to complete the ride. We plan to mostly camp with rest stops as needed. I will be using four panniers and my buddy will be towing a BOB.

Maybe, maybe maybe, i'll finally go on my first tour criss-crossing around the country. A week, week and a half in March-April should do it. 700-900 miles.
Best part - the better half said she's free to come along!
After that, around August : planning to go from Istanbul, Turkey through Georgia to Baku, Azerbaijan - been wanting to see how the house i was born in is holding up.
Lots of maybes, but at least the dreaming make the daily routine seem less grinding.
Good luck to all!

If everything works out, I will be starting an around the world trip mid-May to early June. The first leg in Western Europe...basically where ever I can get the cheapest flight. I hope to be gone for 2 years, maybe more. No more sitting behind this wretched computer for 8 hrs. a day

On March 10ish or thereabouts I plan to leave St. Petersburg and meander along the Gulf coast towards the Mississippi river. Upon reaching the river I'll turn right and head north along the ACA River Trail to Minnesota. In Minnesota I'll jump on the Northern Tier and head for the Pacific. I plan to stop and smell the flowers, see the worlds biggest ball of string etc., my trip should end sometime in August.

I have my plate full with school, work and kids. So I'm doing the only thing you can if you like touring with my limited resources: setting out for one, hopefully two, extended weekend tours from and back to my own doorstep.

Well I definitely want to ride the Icefield's Parkway in Alberta again this year.
I am also planning on going to India this winter for a couple months. Not specifically for a bike tour, but I have this idea that I'll buy an inexpensive Indian bike and ride it for as long as I want in a particular spot an then give it away and hop on the train to my next destination. I'll only have about 10lbs in a small backpack so I don't need racks or panniers at all.

God bless Alexander Keith! A name fond and true to my heart after I attempted to cycle tour Nova Scotia and ended up in a Yarmouth bar instead as I watched the north atlantic storm raging outside. Uggggh that was touring weather to forget about........
