The difference is .2mm, which is about the thickness of transparency sheets (remember overhead projectors from school?). So just buy some sheeting and cut rings out with scissors and put them between your Shimano/SRAM cogs.

I have multiple Shimano freehubs with an added 1mm spacer and there is still plenty of lockring thread. If you are concerned with overall width, leave out the first and last vellum spacers since the first and last cog are controlled by the Hi and Lo stops rather than the indexing. 7 spacers x .2mm = 1.4mm.

No special equipment necessary - cost $3.

I know - late reply, buuuut: Shimano HG and IG 7-speed cassettes have the same spacing as Campagnolo 8-speed cassettes (5.0mm). If you have a Shimano type freehub, but a Campagnolo drivetrain, you can run a 7-speed Shimano Cassette and add another cog, and it will be identical to an 8-speed Campy cassette. I did this on my Colnago Bititan Team Mapei with the Mavic Cosmic wheels (Shimano freehubs) with an 8-speed Record Ergo Drivetrain. It shifts as buttery smooth as any other bike I have; including my SB00-SS8 Superbe Pro equipped 3Rensho pursuit bike, and my RD-7700 Dura Ace equipped Colnago Titanio Team Lampre.
