Peugeot Racing Frame - What's it worth?
There is a local Craigslist ad for a large Peugeot Racing frame. I don't really need an extra bike right now, but if y'all think it is a decent quality bicycle, I might buy it as a third bicycle.

That is a big bike (maybe a 25 inch); you'd better be really tall to ride it.
Even in Watertown (or Newton), that bike is way over priced. Hard to tell what that model is given how crummy that pic is but that looks to be a low end Pug not worth the asking price.
Edit: I misread the asking price in my initial post. The bike is worth $79 assuming it's not crashed and that the parts are in decent shape.

I'm 6'4" and I struggle to find large enough frames. I prefer 64cm or larger. I especially treasure a long reach.
If the bike rides well, I was thinking of offering $50.

Tough to find a nice Pug like that for $50 even in a middling sized city in the Midwest which is where I live. Bikes will run more in the greater Boston area; offer $50 but $79 is a decent price for this bike if it checks out.
I thought that the seller wanted $250 but I must have misread the ad. $79 is a decent price on this bike.

$79 is an excellent price. The bike appears to be an early to mid seventies Peugeot UO8, a lower level machine but one with near legendary ride quality. Go get it if it fits...

If you understand that it's French standards in parts and threading, and know how to work on a cottered crank, it should fill your needs for a large bicycle and longer reach admirably.The open geometry and space for fenders is a plus, and they lend themselves well to updating so long as you do all your own work.
In the case of a larger frame like that, you might discover that the thicker walls and straight gauge of the lesser steel tubing work to your advantage.
