Self conscious? In what way? Do you mean did I feel nervous that it might go off? Or feel like I was over reacting?

If the latter, no. The safety works well. If the former, no, I am responsible for my own safety. I feel completely safe against any dog with police grade sprays. The only thing I am conscious of is how the wind is blowing...

The GEL disperses much less in windy conditions and my 380 even less.

If you put a couple dabs on your fingers, it's a good way to remind you not to touch your face.

No, I mean that you are deliberately carrying something for self defense instead of relying on your own guile and instincts. I feel like it softens you.

The non-lethal option is right for me. Might be more dangerous here in North Idaho to tell someone you just shot their dog compared to leaving the dog sneezing and keeping on riding.

Like I said, I am responsible for my own safety. The way I feel comfortable assuring my safety to the extent possible is by carrying spray.

that being said, I am far more concerned about being hit by a distracted driver than being attacked by a dog. Can't do much about the distracted driver.

Maybe I will get over it. I am going CC so I better get over it. Two guys pulled two armed carjackings and took a shot at the police the other day right where I live. I was on my way to Walmart. You gotta do what you gotta do I guesse. I don't like it, but that is the way it is.

Ah, that is what we need when making important decisions, patronizing remarks. Not funny when you have personally known victims of crime. I will not be a victim, trust me.

Ah--you misunderstood the intent of the remark. Not meant in any way to be patronizing. My apologies to you. And just to complete the thought, I, too, have been the victim of serious person-to-person crime--actually, several.

Neutral corners please.

Later in the ride with the herd of pork, my friend had a coyote run along the side of the road before finally darting in front and crossing. He too packs, a Sig Sauer P238.

BTW, our ride is in an area where the STOP signs were just replaced due to holes.

Just hope the adversary is not approaching you from upwind - gel or not.

That is part of the reason law enforcement training in many jurisdictions requires you to get sprayed with your own spray during pepper spray and lethal force training. That way one knows what happens if you discharge it into the wind or have it taken and used on you.

As a side note since this screen shot is from Amazon, if anyone has reservations about ordering under Amazon Prime, I did a free return yesterday at a UPS store and the money is already in my Bank Account. It took around three weeks to get my money from a return to Left Lane Sports. Love them or hate them, you can not touch this.

When I camp in the mountain parks, I carry pepper spray, because grizzly bears.
If I was worried about coyotes, I'd have to carry it to walk the dog around the block.

It is because we don't feel any need to admit people into our country who carry weapons. I am sure that you are also asked if you are bringing firearms into Canada. Someone on a fishing trip has no need of them
