I love the ad with Ralph Sampson -all 7'04" of him- next to what appears to be a 56-60cm road bike. The top tube only comes up to just above his knees.

Interesting! I have a copy of a similar article from a Dutch magazine from the same era on some of the leading Dutch frame builders at that time (Ko Zieleman, Jan Legrand, Wim Bustraan, Peter Serier and Jan de Reus). Quite a difference! No fancy lugs here, it was all about racing.

Interesting! I have a copy of a similar article from a Dutch magazine from the same era on some of the leading Dutch frame builders at that time (Ko Zieleman, Jan Legrand, Wim Bustraan, Peter Serier and Jan de Reus). Quite a difference! No fancy lugs here, it was all about racing.
I was fortunate that my teacher Jack Briggs at Ellis Briggs Cycles had blank lugs left over from the early 50’s that he gave me.Over the years I’ve improved methods on how to more effectively design and carve blank lugs.This information I’ve been able to pass along to my framebuilding class students. I imported blank lugs from the Nikko company in Japan for them to shape to make their own frame. .
