After a week of overcast skies, the low winter sun finally came out when I got to the park yesterday
There are many Scaup on the Lake, but mostly in "rafts" some distance offshore. There are "Greater" and "Lesser" Scaup, but I find it hard to tell the difference.

The single Canvasback has been hanging around for several weeks.

Family went for a backpacking trip night of Jan 1st west of Phoenix in the Eagletail Mountains. Description of the start of the trip with cell phone images is posted here in Foo.
Soon after sunset from camp:

The glow on the horizon is primarily Phoenix 80mi away, but also from the moon which will be rising in a hour or so.

Then moonrise lighting up the ridges:

If you view these in Bikeforums slideshow mode you can flip between these two moonrise images and see the change in light

I enjoyed these very much, probably the third and last the most. The lighting of the tent and the way it fits into the scene is fantastic, I've never been able to get a lit tent shot nearly that good. And the foreground in the last one is other worldly, a camera can capture what you saw but it can also extend your ability to see, the long exposure of moonlight shows something that's real but not visible to the eye. That's really cool.

I thought it was some of my B&W shots that looked a bit apocalyptic.

Can I direct everyone's attention to the monthly challenge thread - happy to get Seattle Forrest's contribution but we need more before the end of the month.

I have ridden past this monument on my bike dozens of times, but it's only on my winter COVID walks that I have come to realize just how tasteless this thing is, especially given its setting in an otherwise very dignified cemetery. A very well known Toronto business and sports magnate.
