Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra 6700 Brakes

Hello, I was wondering if the new 6700 Ultegra Brakeset would work with the 7800 Dura Ace Shifter/Brake? I was wanting the 6700 Brakeset and just wanted to make sure that there was no problems with compatibility my 7800 shifters.
Thanks

Bad news. According to Shimano, you can use 7800 brakes with 6700 brifters, but you can't use 6700 brakes with 7800 brifters.

Quote:

Must be used in conjunction with ST-7900 or ST-6700 STIs for correct leverage ratio.

they'll work fine. modulation may not be 100% optimal, but they'll work without problem.

back to basics - how caliper brakes work: your lever pulls cable, cable pivots brakes, brakes clamp on rim. simple stuff.

Typical BF stuff. Lately, there's a lot of conjecture and expert opinion at odds with what the manufacturers say and do. I can't figure it out, either.

(The manufacturers must be stupid!)

Either you're playing games with this guy, or you've never mounted brakes with levers with incompatible gain ratios. It might not be dangerous with this particular combination, but some of them are. (And, I suspect, this is why Shimano says not to do it. They want to avoid lawsuits.)
