Has cycling reached the point of no return

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Has cycling reached the point of no return

Bikes keep getting lighter and lighter and easier to ride, when does it become too easy?

surely a bike which is harder to move would improve a person health and well being and muscular tone rather than moving to elegantly and easily as if it was powered by an engine not of the humans heart but more like a moped.

when do we say this is too easy

Get a motorized bike, scooter, or light motorcycle if you don't want to exercise. I've thought about getting a ninja 250 or a scooter, (did just take the MSF safety course) but I'd rather be out of traffic flow at slower speeds, getting exercise. I may yet get a motorcycle at some point. Here are are op.

You can get used pre 2008 ninja 250 bikes for as much as an entry level road bike, and plenty of decent more powerful motorcycles for the cost of a mid to high end road bike.

as a jogger I'm amazed how much work I can put on my heart on a modern road bike. A heavy mountain bike would just demoralize me and I'd quit.

Like the man said, you don't ride, do you?

Let me simplify it for you. If you put out 250 watts on a light bike, that is just as hard as putting out 250 watts on a heavy bike.

you don't get it, if the bike has the best of everything and the lightest of everything...you'll push yourself just as hard as you would on a heavier less advanced bike...the difference is you'll go faster on the light bike

example...today I went on a ride, I've been feeling strong, in the flats and even in the wind I'm faster than I've ever been, but I still hurt just as much as I did when I was going 16mph and pushing hard...it hurts no matter what...this sport is about suffering, not sightseeing..
