Why do you like BIBS?

I haven't worn anything but bibs for several years . . . support on my lower back, straps keep the shorts in position, no fussing at all about where the waistband sits as I ride, no changes to the position of my shorts after getting off the saddle for a hard effort, etc etc
once or twice per ride I'll adjust / reset my straps under the jersey to accommodate better ventilation (riding in Miami) but there's nothing to it, I barely even slow down to do it
assos chamois are the best I've found thus far and most of their shorts are bibs so I really don't give much thought to needing anything else

Fit, feel, comfort, support, endurance and look are superior to shorts alone. Moreover, because the garment seat is held in place better, my bibs chafe less and last longer since there is less friction on the garment. Pay a little more, get a lot more.

I forgot to mention that I finally tried a pair yesterday, and loved them. My buddy had an unclaimed order from our club. The shorts fit great, and the top wasn't a problem. I think they would be better around the waist at reducing sweat and heat. I know they won't slip down either, but I don't have that problem.

If you are going to wear shorts, bibs are (for me) the way to go simply for one reason - the straps. They keep the shorts in place for a consistent feel. With that said, I found some brand’s straps are more comfortable than others. i love my Assos bib shorts and the Pearl Izumi I have are almost as good. I bought a pair of Castelli and they did not feel good to me, and I returned them.

As others have said the straps provide lots of improvement in comfort.
Often, shorts without straps require a pretty tight waist to "stay up" or to not move around when riding. Instead of the constant feeling of shorts moving around, being squeezed at the waist, or having the waist elastic wear out and then feel loose...............bibs.
Peeing roadside is a sorry excuse to own shorts instead of bibs. I've never owned a bib I couldn't pee in by just bending over and pulling it down.
Runners don't wear bibs because you're constantly moving your upper body with your stride and bibs would chafe the nipples. Cyclists aren't. Your upper should be pretty darn stable.

Off road cyclists often like to pretend they aren't cyclists but instead survivalists happening to be seen on a bike, hence all the cargo short style shorts. But guess what.......all the UCI cross country and mtb world cup racers wear....................gasp....bibs and jerseys and not camouflage cargo shorts.

A very helpful salesperson at the quite high end LBS tried hard to get me to switch. After 30 years of shorts I will stick with them. I did drop $150 on a very nice pair of PearlIzumi's though. I am kind of cheap but that was money well spent. They feel fantastic!

When you have an areobelly the waist band of shorts tend to roll, bibs prevent that and are much more comfortable.

They stay in place - no moving waistband. They also have more coverage, so no need to worry if the jersey slips around a bit.

Guilty of that once. First day of Cycle Oregon 2002. Woman passes me. As she does, she says something like "You must have had those shorts for a long time." I thought to myself "She's right. I have. But how could she know that?" After about 30 seconds it dawned on me. At the end of the day, after I had showered and changed, I inspected the back of the shorts. Into the trash they went. I applauded her for her tact.

They are certainly more comfortable for me. Shorts tend to move around a bunch, bibs don't.
