Lawyer/Attorney recommendations?

I have been summoned to answer to damages after hitting a pedestrian in NYC. Does anyone have any good lawyer recommendations? Thanks!

If you have homeowners or renters insurance, report the claim to your insurance company. Your policy may provide you liability coverage and with it a defense on the insurance company's dime (that is, free lawyer). Act fast though as your time is limited.

This is probably not the best place to look for an attorney.

So, you're from Santa Barbara, how many lawyers do you know in NYC?

Two. They always tell me that sticking around at the scene is the first mistake.

Okay, then give the recommendation. I still think a bicycle forum is not the place to look for a lawyer. The Northeast regional section would at at least narrow it down to people who may actually know a lawyer in New York, but not General Cycling Discussion.

If I had never been on a particular bicycle forum, and suddenly needed a lawyer, I would not seek out a bicycle forum, join, and then as a first post, ask for lawyer recommendations.

That is like working in a restaurant, accidentally burning a customer as I served up some flaming flambé, then joining a cooking forum and asking for lawyer recommendations.

Agreed.

Best bet is to get referrals from people you know.

If you've got auto insurance, call them first. Most policies (excluding "don't pay for what you don't think you'll need") will cover the driver regardless of what s/he's driving.

An automotive policy isn't going to cover you for riding a bike. Don't be silly.

But, homeowners and renters policies often do under the liability coverages. Depends on the policy and the state, but it's worth looking into.

Ask about all of your coverages. That's why you buy insurance.

I know two great bike lawyers in Chicago. They might know bike lawyers in NYC.

I don't think it's silly when I know of two people whose liability were covered when they were at fault while cycling.

My apologies then. Here in GA accidents while cycling are generally either a coverage under homeowners or a special policy it's own. These jokers try their best not to cover anything they can.

Really, a New Yorker and you didn't immediately think, "Leave no witnesses"?

I guess that is more New Jersey and maybe some of the Boroughs, but still .....

Just a follow up if it can help anyone in the future.
NYC bike lawyer Daniel Flanzig a cyclist that protects cyclists. newyorkbikelawyer.com
Some home owners and rental insurance policies cover personal injury liability to others caused by you riding.
Time will tell whether mine does, but a claim has been filed.
Cheers to those that have helped.

Why do I feel sort of like this was a well executed spam post?

So was this question really just a way to post a free advertisement for Dewy, Chetham and Howe?

I am a criminal defense attorney in Orange County, CA with over a decade of experience

And my recommendation would be to not seek out an attorney on a bicycle forum
