Is it possible for cycling in the Northeast to get even better?
Try the National Bike Challenge and find out for yourself. This free and fun event begins May 1 to encourage more people to get on bikes more often. The pre-season has started and already 2000 people from all 50 states have biked over 200,000 miles. Check out the current rankings of your community and state.

It seems to involve downloading their mobile app for your smartphone - either the free or paid version. Maybe it's similiar to RunKeeper but pitched more to cyclists? Whatever, their FAQ raises more questions than it answers.

If it's about promoting cycling on a large scale, I'm for it, but hey dudes, stop making me guess at what it is you're asking us to do!

I've been using a couple of online sports loggers. I like plus3 network since they donate money to a charity of your choice (somewhat as they have a list that you must choose from) for the miles you log. You can log miles or time for a whole list of different activities, not just cycling. I recently joined the free version of Strava, and like it for some of the metrics it interprets from my Garmin, including giving me a power rating even though I don't have a power meter on my bike

Sorry for the confusion about the National Bike Challenge. It is simply a free program to encourage more people to get on bikes more often. We piloted it in Wisconsin last year with good success - surpassed our stretch goal of 1 million miles with 4500 riders participating. Here is a link to a short YouTube video that will provide more info about the Challenge. https://youtu.be/Ogup1v9cnzs All I can tell you is that from my perspective, it is a lot of fun to participate, especially if you form a team. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Stacy, Concerning the FAQ's, some issues have been reported accessing the FAQ and Toolkit documents with certain web browsers. Until this issue is fully resolved, you can access these documents at https://nationalbikechallenge.org/ao/toolkit.html. Thanks for your patience as the team works to improve the Challenge

Hey Papa Tom - what the Challenge is asking you to do is simply log your rides. The Challenge is to see how many points you can obtain. Once you achieve a certain number of points, you are then eligible for the monthly prize drawings. What I enjoy the most is the different ways you can use the Challenge; you can compete against yourself, other riders, form a team and see how both your community and state do in the Challenge.
