Tire size on Trek Verve + 2: Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus

I'm getting around to ordering my studded tires for my Verve. It has 700C x 45 street tires as factory. The studs I want for winter riding come as X40 or 50 instead of 700X45. The tires are Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus. I am not sure about the clearance. For a difference of 5 I hope they would work. It looks like there is room under the fenders, forks and at the rear. Does anyone have experience with this? I had to cut down fenders on my 2018 Trek 520 for the 700x40s. Be Well, Bluesfrog.

My wife has a Verve 2 and there isn't enough room for a tire that big, IMO.

So I'd try the 40. That's still pretty big, as big as the tires on my ebike.

Have you ever ridden in the winter? I tried it once, that was enough for me.

I would try the smallest size possible because generally a narrower tire with a smaller contact patch does better in the snow. Also snow may stick to the tire and it may rub on the fender meaning the greater clearance provided by a smaller tire may help alleviate this issue. Finally, keep in mind e-bike battery maintenance and charging parameters when running your bike in below freezing temperatures as batteries can be damaged by improper charging (do not charge when battery temperature is below freezing) and use (try to keep battery warm).

OK! I had an error here. The verve had 700X45s So X42 or X40 should work fine. The oversized studs on the Trek 520 worked for about 8 years. I appreciate the ideas. I just retired so I won't be riding to work before dawn every work day. Be Well, Bluesfrog.
