Old Rock Shox Duke SL fork?

Hi folks,
I know zero about mountain bikes. I acquired an old steel-frame bike with the intention of converting it to a gravel/touring/commuting bike. I removed the suspension fork that was on it. It's a Rock Shox Duke SL. It seems to be in very nice physical condition. I'm guessing early 2000s? Or late 90s? I used to save things like this "in case I needed them" but that turned into having way too many bike parts. It has dropouts, not a through-axle, so I know it's outdated. On the other hand I have a vague idea that suspension forks are expensive. Basically, if I pop this on Craigslist, I have no idea whether to ask for $20 or $200 or what--what would be fair? Thanks for any insight.

You say it is in "very nice physical condition"...what does that mean? What it looks like on the outside does not matter much. Has it had an overhaul? Does it hold air? Is there oil in it? If so, is it clean?

Unless this is a particularly well maintained and preferably overhauled for, I think you would be doing well to get $40 for it. Might need to settle for much less. A 17-20 year-old 26" fork from Rock Shox's darker days is not an in demand item.

If it works and doesn’t leak, you’ll get $50 from someone who will just slap it on a bike and ride. There are probably no rebuild kits available anymore.

Unfortunately I don't know how to evaluate if it needs an overhaul, holds air, etc, other than if I press down on it, it seems to spring back nicely. Sounds like there's a mini consensus that it's not worth more than $50 at best...thanks that's what I wanted to know!

To my surprise, rebuild kits are still available.

Do you have a source for old fork rebuild kits?

Are they just the dust seals (Enduro)?

Thanks

Jenson has them.

Rebuild Kit (minus dust seal/wipers):

Dust seals/wipers:

Or I assume Enduro will have seals/wipers.

One of the things I like about many Rockshox forks is that - assuming the bushings are good and nothing is actually damaged - you can easily rebuild them to like-new condition for around $50 at home with basic bike tools plus snap ring pliers.

And whether it was RS’s intention or just a lot of leftover supply, I’ve had no problems finding rebuild kits for my 2005 Pike, 2007 Reba, and 2012 Lyrik.

Update: indeed, the guy who bought it from me mentioned rebuilding it. I listed it for $40 and agreed to take $30. Maybe a little low, but I wanted it gone and it was just a day or two after I listed it so I was happy.

$30 was reasonable.

I have a Tora 312 I have rebuilt a few times. Either every few years or when the travel get shorter from fluid leakage internally. I know it is time when the travel shortens.

Back in the day I had one new and I didn't like it. It blew within six rides. I had it rebuilt from Rockshox but didn't re-install it. Tried to sell it at a bike swap, no one would buy it. So I gave it to my favorite bike mechanic to use any way he wanted.

They do look great though. It would be okay for the bike path type of riding. Even if it blew, you wouldn't be missing much, unfortunately.

Old Italian Marzocchi Bomber forks on the other hand are worth something.
