Hey all,

So I'm looking to go clipless as I just ordered a set of Look Keo Blades Cromo for my ride. I'm looking for a my first set of shoes and heard great things about Mavic Avenir. I also hear lots of hype about SIDI shoes but seem way expensive. I plan to use these shoes for my training and all year round riding. Anyone ever ride these or recommend shoes? I tried on a pair of Shimano's at REI local today and they fit pretty nice and were comfortable. Now I wear a size 13 shoe normally and I heard cyclist should size them a half size up and I also hear people say get them snug. I've only seen select cycling shoes in a size 13 1/2. The Shimano's I tried on were a size 48 which is a 12 1/2 and had good space. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I tried the Sidi Genius 5 but they were too narrow around the toes. My second choice was the Mavic Avenir. Not only were they much cheaper, but they fit like a glove; very comfortable.

If the Shimano's fit you well, I would get them. It sucks to buy shoes online.
And REI has an excellent return policy. BTW, when you get the shoes, get the cleats professionally adjusted by a good bike fitter. There are a lot of issues that look like the shoe is uncomfortable but really are related to cleat positioning side to side, back to front and the angle.

I've got the Mavic Avenir for about 2 weeks now and I like them. very comfortable so far.. I did have an issue with right foot pressure but adjusting the cleat did the trick for me.

The Avenir's are great for the money. Very comfortable. I put several thousand miles on mine and then blew them out in a crash.

If Sidis fit you, then they are the way to go. I like how they fit, ride (except for the crappy insole) and the company's general philosophy of relaceable parts. And you can find them much cheaper online, provided you know your exact size.

I definitely get my money's worth from Sidi cycling shoes.

Do you go half size up with SIDI or just get your normal shoe size? I haven't tried on either of these brand shoes because I can find them anywhere over here. I just tried the shimano's in a size 48 and they fit fine. Not sure what to do.

I've had Sidi boots and shoes for decades, and love the way they fit, and last. I have a pair of the Genius 5's now, and they are a good shoe. If you have no past experience with a brand, I suggest going to shops and trying different brands to see what fits best.

Just called up a shop I used to go to and they told me they have both in stock in my sizes. I'm going to take a spin over there tomorrow and check the out. I'll keep you all posted on the results.

So today I tried on the Audio genius 5 and Mavic Avenue's. The Sidi's were comfy no questions asked. However, I noticed there was considerably heel sleep. The also felt a bit narrow toward the arch of my foot on the sole. I also tried the mega version which were wayyyyy to big. I then tried the Avinir's. One word to discribe them "exceptional". They were soooooo comfy and still and fit true to size. The ratchet is really cool too, a bit flimsy but works great. I noticed with the Genius 5's the ratchet wasn't catching well at all in the store and I had to use to hands instead of one to tighten. I didn't have to do this at all with the Avenir's. So I've decided to hear what you all have to say while I find a good deal online for the Avenir's. Oh one last thing I forgot to mention... The Avenir's did show a little flex on the sole while walking, I wonder if this will happen or be noticed while riding.
