Lol

You guys can't fight in here. That's what the enlisted men's club is for isn't it?

Happy Birthday Marines

It's official. All Marines can now carry umbrellas while wearing the service or dress uniform. This brings to an end a revered for some tradition of toughing it out in the rain.

Happy Birthday from the Commandant.

If that's post-2015 I'd have to wonder what Erdogan is thinking . . . . . . . . . and that's about as much as you can speculate aloud in a foo thread. lol.

Biggest tip I ever got from my short stint driving a cab in San Diego was from two marines right out of boot camp. This was in about '76 and the standards for qualifying for that sort of duty were high. These guys were a dispatcher acquired pickup downtown and they wanted to go to TJ. Well on the way they started talking about finding a fight somewhere as they'd already been celebrating awhile. I'm sure they were hard physically but neither were big and both too happy for getting into any fight. So when we got to the border I talked them out of TJ as their jail isn't any three star rated accommodations.

So I wound up taking them to a bar in La Mesa where I knew the bartender and they surprised me with a $20 tip apiece. So I go in as if to use the bathroom and slipped a waitress I knew a $10 for each a drink and told her to mention that it was for making it through boot camp loud enough for it to be heard some. I knew most of that crowd would likely decline a fight knowing they were servicemen. So it turns out a couple of more guys bought them drinks and they staggered out about as happy as they came and didn't have trouble there.

I never tried for tips when I did that because it was just a temporary thing for me. But I'll bet not too many dedicated cabbies get a $40 tip at all.
