OP, why are you worried about being hit in the shins? Are you planning on riding your bike backwards a lot? Many riders prefer platform pedals with straps because they feel it provides them with the best fit and comfort for the type of shoes that they are wearing and the style of riding they do. They seem to be greatly preferred by the fixed gear free-style crowd which makes sense as those guys share a lot with BMX. For the most part though, options with a some sort of retention at the front of the foot, either in the form of clips or clipless pedals provide the most benefit with regard to retention. Part of the reaction here has to do with the fact that platform pedals are often selected because they are seen as "cool" rather than providing an actual benefit. But really these things are inexpensive enough that it is worth experimenting. Different people have different widths of feet for example and that has an impact on what is most comfortable for them. I really wouldn't count shin injury as a major factor though, unless you are planning to do a lot of tricking.

I can't speak for your $15 BMX pedals, but the BMX pedals which the OP is considering do not have holes for mounting toe clips. Did you even read his post?

His original phrase was "are plastic ones more innocuous?"
Innocuous means harmless. He's using it as an adjective. Consider the similarly constructed phrase "are red snakes more harmless?". You're suggesting that "harmless" is being used as a noun? You're wrong. It's an adjective. You realize adjectives don't always have to be placed in front of nouns, right?
Regarding whether you can have a quantity of innocuous: yes, you can indeed have degrees of innocuousness. Something can be somewhat harmless, mostly harmless, or completely harmless. I think you must be confusing innocuousness with uniqueness. There are indeed only two degrees of uniqueness. You're either unique or you're not. You can't be "very unique" or "more unique".

To the OP, regarding fear of pins: I use pinned BMX pedals on my unicycle, where the danger to one's legs is 100 times greater than the relatively pedestrian fixed gear bicycle. Your fears are unsubstantiated.

And back to pedals.
Hey OP, I have pedals with the metal spikes and let me give insight about your concern. I have fyxation mesa 61 pedals and i have straps on these and never once have I hurt myself while riding. I have scraped my legs a few times but it always happened when I was walking my bike and my legs were too close when the pedals cranked around. Moral of the story is that they are harmless unless you are a dumbass like me. Watch your legs when you walk the bike or just akways ride it.

You guys really need to stop. Both of you.
Edit:
I'm really disappointed in the childlike behaviour in this thread honestly. We've got two people who disagree and end up with internet chest puffing, "come at me bro" attitudes and now pictures of feces.
This is really sad.
It's not funny at all.
Very very surprised in what happened in here.
Yan and T13 please leave this thread.
Thank you.

Yes.
Based on your comment I KNOW you are "new" here. LOL I know it's fairLy common but I really thought that one of them would not keep egging on the other, since one of them agreed to stop. But that being said, let's get back on track here, okay?

Used to ride BMX and all BMX pedals I've seen have holes that could be used to mount clips although I've never seen anyone do it. If you opt for the BMX pedals just get the thick velcro straps, easy to install and you don't need clips. Also metal pins hitting your shin will hurt more than plastic ones, probably more likely to break skin too. If you have straps and your foot secured on the pedal you shouldn't really have to worry about the pedal striking your shin... and if it does happen just remember chicks dig scars.
Also Sylvan tracks are uncomfortable for long rides, platform pedals are where it's at. I've always used the MKS GR9's and love them, but hear GR10's are good too if you have wider feet.

"More" is an adverb of intensification when applied to adjectives, especially those that have more than 2 syllables and thus don't have a comparative form. "Facebook is more exclusive than MySpace." You wouldn't want to argue that "exclusive" is a noun would you? Or maybe you think the only grammatical way to say this would be "Facebook is exclusiver than MySpace".
semantically he used it incorrectly. it's a poor use of the word. however, your argument has merit regarding the technical correctness.
innacuous isnt an example of care less, stainless (stains less than steel), etc. it implies insignificance.
