Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dropped seatstays are supposed to give more compliance so it's a relatively common design on gravel frames for rough road.
Internal cabling looks cleaner and is popular on higher spec road bikes. That's about it for benefits, so why not make it a 'feature', I guess.

New Giant Defy Advanced in Wine Purple, with di2. I'll be swapping the stem and then the brake hoses will be shortened a bit so they'll run right next to the stem and be less visible (they knew I was going to play with the stem length/angle so they left them a bit long).

Hot. Is that a tiny crank or just a huge RD? Bottom of the chain looks close to the ground.

LOL Did over 600k ft of climbing last year, def like having the extra gear when I need it. To be honest, I don't notice the jumps at all, guess I'm just used to it.

Hot. I keep trying to like the dropped seat stays that BMC seemed to have a hand in starting.

I love dropped stays, but I also only started cycling about a year and a half ago, so I don't have any exposure to the classics, the modern look is what I'm used to. Classic round tube bikes do nothing for me, but I can appreciate the nostalgia.

This one is brand new, but I've been riding with 11-34 out back since last June. Altho my last two bikes still looked new when I sold them, I'm pretty ocd about keeping them clean and polished.

Absolutely, can't stand drivetrain noise, and the best way to avoid it is to keep everything squeaky clean!

Just put together an 80s OLMO Tretubi Aelle. Can a non-aero-levers and dt friction shifters be "hot"?

Find some hoods for those levers, and you'll be much closer. Silver wheels will help too.

Nice looking bike! Did you build this from the frame or do a custom deal with your LBS? Asking because that colorway (and for that matter, any model including the "Pro") of Defy isn't available with Di2 per Giant's website anyway? Edit: For that matter, 52/36 also seems custom with 50/34 being the stock config.

Right? The only thing I want to hear is the hum of my tires.

Thanks!! Custom deal with my LBS. They gave me a good deal on trade in for the take-off parts so I still came out way ahead of a Pro model with electronic shifting (I didn't want SRAM, and didn't care about the Giant carbon wheels since I knew I would upgrade wheels later anyway). Figured since I was having them swap the crankset out, I'd go back to a 52/36, not a huge difference, but a lil extra oomph when I want it on the topend.

Did my first road race with it on Saturday and it performed fantastically (first on this bike, as well as my first ever lol), comfortable and fast, the di2 shifting is phenomenal (came in 15th out of 97, big Cat 4/5 field, prob could have been top 10 if I had positioned myself a lil better going into the sprint, was def a good learning experience).

Thanks! I think it was the matching shoes that did it!! What's funny is I already had these shoes picked out when I was looking at getting a different bike that was blue. Then ended up with a bike that matched the shoes I already wanted. It was meant to be.
