More info needed.
Why did you buy this bike?
What others did you test ride and how did they all compare to make this bike the winner?

I test rode a Domane ALR 5 which is what I wanted but they were out of stock in my size and didn't know if they would be getting anymore in so they showed me this and I liked it. 4 pounds lighter, no disc brakes which isn't a huge deal and something I think I can grow more into

You certainly got yourself a great bike, no doubt about it.
Just remember to post some pics once you get your hands on it.

one thing I did notice was that it had quick release wheels and not thru axles like my FX3 but I'm wondering if that's because the Emonda isn't a disc brake bike. I do like the thru axles

Yeah compared to carbon, but it's aluminum. Look at the price of the Specialized Allez Elite 105, it's like $400 less. I just bought my carbon Diamondback Podium, 105 and hydraulic discs, on sale for $1124. You can buy it right now for less than $1500 if you get the code for a corporate account.

Allez Elite is about a pound heavier than the Emonda ALR 5, and swaps out some of the really nice 5800 parts (notably crankset and brakes) for cheap alternatives.

All bikes are overpriced unless you get last year's model on super sale. Don't sweat it - ride and enjoy

Yeah, but I think about what could be done with the $479 price difference. The weight difference between the two is less than a pound, and a nice wheelset with that money would make the Allez lighter, which nice wheels to boot. And I'd rather have the Praxis cranks. The Trek is nice, though. No denying that.

oh my god it’s amazing. I had a mountain bike that I got rid of that weighed 33 lbs and got the FX3 and as it sits it’s 28 lbs and this is 18 lbs, never been on a bike this light

Nice choice! Comfy, stiff, light and fast.
Emonda ALR has been the better choice on the market for lightweight aluminum since the 1050g Giant SL/SLR TCRs have been relegated to limited markets. Really wish Spesh and Cannondale would put theirs on a diet, its obviously an attainable weight.

Congrats! Great bike...my sole gripe is the extermal cable routing (I won't be servicing it so internal all the way for me because I don't care how hard it is).

Its this bike https://www.rei.com/product/893053/d...-105-bike-2016 with hydraulic brakes right?
But there are hardly any reviews and even the reviews that exist are not exactl glowing. For example https://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/...-equipe-49947/ is not exactly positive and this is from a magazine which finds it hard to say anything bad about a bike!

Diamondback bikes have always intruiged me since you can get them from REI so an LBS style after care service and they are well speced.

I don't think I've ever bought a bike that wasn't overpriced. Don't let it distract you from the joy of New Bike Day!

Super nice riding bike. External cables also make replacing them (or in a pinch lubricating them) a hell of a lot easier and cost you little in other terms. Trek has extremely good warranty support through their dealers.
I'd run it as you've got it, but to be honest, the only part of that bike that's not great spec is the tires. Go ahead and wear them out, but replace them with something with a higher thread count when you do, possibly tubeless. If you decide to go tubeless make sure to get the tubeless strips that Bontrager wheels need--you shouldn't just tape them and install tires.
