Advice for completing Soma Saga Disc build
I bought a Soma Saga Disc frame and fork when it was on sale for $499, primarily so I could have a dedicated touring bike again (I've had a 1990 Trek 520 until about 2005 -- I gave it to one of my grad students), and also because I had accumulated enough extra bike parts to make this reasonable. Here is what I have so far:
1. Wheels (White Industry hubs, HED Belgium + rims, centerlock discs -- also my second wheelset for another bike)
2. Bar-end shifters (front is non-indexed or friction mode, rear is indexed for 11-speed mountain) -- borrowed from another bike, possibly permanently.
3. TRP full-hydro Hylex brakes -- again borrowed
4. Gravel flared drops -- again borrowed
5. XT 11-speed rear derailleur
6. White Industries Crank, 46/30T (allows other chainrings down to 24T I think)
7. Stopshox seatpost and stem (Redshift)
8. 38mm Compass tires. Frame will take 55mm.
9. Axiom rear rack (might need an upgrade)
What I need:
1. Front derailleur -- chainline is a bit wide compared to normal road, so maybe ideal for GRX? The friction shifter gives me some options.
2. Low-riders. (Fork has mid-mount holes and two mount points flanking dropout). I want something robust, so I can carry significant weight at the front, but preferably not something vile and ugly, if possible. It has to be able to clear my disc brake caliper (iso mount) and quick-release, and allow 55mm 700C tires.)
3. Dedicated wheels -- my current ones are a borrowed second wheelset from another bike, so not urgent.
4. Pedals: I'm thinking either XTR trail or A600.
What I covet:
The current bar-end shifting seems clunky and imprecise, especially after having been spoiled by Di2. I saw a shop is unloading NOS Ultegra brifters for $250, and XT front and rear derailleurs are also on sale, so I am entertaining the idea of Di2. What is putting me off is this: I have no option for internal wiring unless I get the frame drilled. This doesn't bother me, apart from the worry of an external battery getting damaged or stolen. Di2 requires that the front and rear derailleurs match. I would like to have XT in the back so I can have some really low gearing (lower than 11-36), but this necessitates XT(R) at the front. Would a mountain derailleur work with a 46T large chainring?

OK, TL;DR
1. What low riders that are disc brake-compatible should I get?
2. Are mountain front derailleurs incompatible with a 46/30T road crankset?

I decided to order a GRX derailleur, as this is a sub-compact road crank and I introduced a wider chain-line.

I put on a Shimano XT 986 (if I got the number correct) it fit and allowed my 11-40, 42 cassette with 2 sprocket front... Sorry, just noticed you have 11 speed
