Sure--e.g., Both north and south of Monterey (although a bridge is out in Big Sur) and Carpenteria north to Morro Bay (through either Lompoc or San Louis Obispo. All of the coast north of San Francisco. San Clemente through Camp Pendleton to Oceanside and along the North County Coastal through La Jolla to OB to the Point Loma Lighthouse.

Apparently for the purposes of the list's dreamers desire to exaggerate the extent of a "LCF Movement", everybody who sometimes uses a bicycle or public transport qualifies as being LCF, or "car light" which is used interchangeably with living car free, regardless of how many cars are owned or how many miles are driven by the so-called LCF people.

Here is two more for you. The film is from the newspaper filming for 90 minutes. All the drivers they comment on is using the mobile phone, texting or talking holding the phone with one hand. Only handsfree phone use is allowed. It was mainly cars filmed here but go to where there are more bikes and take a look at them or read link number two.

That's all recreational stuff. How do you bike or walk or take public transit to work or to shop, when the nearest full-service town (St. Luis Obispo) is almost 20 miles away and there is almost non-existent bus service? Where is the hospital, the clinic, the dentist? They're miles away. This is like the worst place to live car-free or car-light. Plus it's expensive ('F' on affordability). Sure, it would be great to be well off and maybe not need to work, to live there car-light and enjoy biking or surfing and once in a while drive into a larger town with more amenities, but if you had two working parents and some teens you'd probably need 3 cars to live there.

I'm quite disappointed that you came up with such a bad example of a possible LCF/LCL community in California, but not so much disappointed in you - it's more the rest of us at fault. Presumably you came to the forum seeking ideas on how to live car-free or light, (obviously, since that is what the forum is for), and the rest of us ought to have given you useful tips. However, despite all the time you spend here and the dozens of your posts we have responded to, it's clear that you have learned nothing.

I'm sure they have a low crime rate in Cayucos as it is an affluent area and crime is linked in part to poverty. However it is also the case that it is hard to measure the crime rate per 100/k people in a town of 2500, as you have to multiple the actual occurrences by 40 to estimate the annual rate. A slight year-to-year variation eg. one extra violent crime, or one murder, would lead to huge fluctuations in the estimated annual rate.

Anyway, you still have provided no insights about living car-free or car-light there, and it's pretty obvious you aren't going to.

There may well be 10x the national average LVC there and you don't know because they don't come on this sub-forum and make a big deal out of something that is just a small part of the lifestyle they have chosen and that their particular circumstances allow.
