WTB: 48-50cm touring/sports touring bike
A friend wants me to build a bike up for her. 48-50cm seat tube, mounts for racks/fenders, 700C preferred. Outside of that, we are very open. Willing to do complete or frameset.
Show me what you got.

FYI I did a 700c conversion on a Nishiki Cresta GT in that exact color scheme with those exact components (so likely same year) and it was all fine. Have used original DiaCompe shorties, but later upgraded to Shimano SLR MT62 brakes in front and Suntour Scott Pedersen SE brakes in back, with good success. A319 rims were used in the conversion. Good fender clearance for up to 700x42 rear (Compass Snoqualmie Pass), front has 700x38 (Compass Barlow Pass) and is a little bit tight but manageable, with VO aluminum fenders.

Forgot to mention, the fenders I used are VO Zeppelins. They do require some crimping to get through the fork crown and chainstays, but there's about 2mm on each side of the front tire and 3mm on each side of the back tire at the tightest spot when inflated to maximum pressure (more clearance when inflated sensibly to some lower pressure so the bike doesn't bounce around like a basketball). Another nice thing is that some of the braze-ons are for 6mm bolts and there are braze-ons on the brake bridge facing downward and chainstay bridge facing backward for direct-mounting the fender. You do have to deflate the huge rear tire to get it out of the horizontal dropouts, however. The fork crown has the hole drilled in it high enough that you can use a daruma bolt and then a recessed nut (like for modern sidepull brakes) to hold the fender on, gaining you even more clearance up top. Head angle is 73 degrees near as I can tell using my cell phone inclinometer app. The tubing is pretty stiff, not a flexy or particularly "lively" bike by any means, but it is butted. Tubing thickness is corroborated by the seat post size, which I think was 26.8 if I recall correctly. Some guy had jammed the wrong post in there so I had to deal with that using my reamers and I'm still not quite sure.

Almost forgot (kids and grand kids all over the place). The wheels on that small Cannondale are 27". Sorry, I really had not taken time to look at first.
