Today was like Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

FIrst off I got in the Selle Italia Olmo Team Vitalicio Seguros saddle that mokala spotted for me. It's mint, even came in what seemed to be the original bag. Perfect for the Freire bike even though it's not a Flite like he road. My butt does not like Flites saddles and then one may work fine! Big thanks to mokala for spotting and sharing this!!!!




I'll probably get the saddle mounted on today!


Then I got in the red anodized steel chainring bolts for the Krapf bike. I've had NOS Superbe chainrings for it waiting and can now get swap the old Dura Ace one's off the Superbe crank!

I've also got a box in the garage from Bike Flights today. It just may a sweet 90's Italian beauty in it to share later.

And a bit off topic but I also got in some really nice Klipsch RP-8000F II tower speakers for the Living Room. I've had some Klipsch reference series in wall speakers for about a dozen years and decided to step up my game. Also mounted the TV on the wall which let me properly place my center speaker and get the turntable and phono amp to the credenza for easier use. I need to clean up all the cabling still but this should sound sweet!

Went on a swapping spree today. First regional swap meet of the year is traditionally in Dessel, Belgium.

First buy of the day was a 1985 Brooks Professional. Barely ridden in. Not particularly cheap, but I like these better than any new saddle.



I was pleasantly surprised to find a set of Weimann Vainqueurs in black. Don't recall having ever seen these before. Should clean up beautifully and look the part on the right bike. And I have a pair of black Weinmann levers somewhere, which I've bought ten years or so ago. Patience is useful in this C&V business.



A set of Sachs Ergo levers. Similarly shaped to the early Campagnolo levers, which I like a lot. With 8-speed internals and these *should* be Shimano compatible. We'll see. I *should* be able to get these to work with something.



Probably my favorite find of the day. A T.A. handlebar bag. Probably a late model. I had been looking for one, but so far the ones I'd found were expensive and too far gone. This example is missing a strap and needs a good clean, but otherwise seems to be technically sound.

I've been in Dessel too and had a great time to meet a lot of vintage-cycling friends and have a talk with them. Last time I saw non-fixie was in june at Vélo Vintage Anjou, nice to speak him again.
I went home with some small stuff and one heavy piece.

I see we've been looking at the same stuff. Nice haul! Those CLB hoods are nice. Hope you have the levers to go with them. I have become a CLB fan over the years: looks good, works well and weighs next to nothing. I saw some very nice CLB 'Professionnel' brakes today and would have bought them if I hadn't already spent all of my my allowance earlier.

You are going to like that VAR press. Hefty, but nice to work with.

For years I have been messing with all kinds of bells, but none were ever really satisfactory. Some don't work in the rain. I had one that had a pitch that was very high, even I at 50 could hardly hear it, let alone people in front of me.

So I had enough and bought 4 bells from Crane, the Suzu mini. Really loud. Good frequency. And long echo, almost like a gong bell. I am satisfied

Hey big thanks to JohnDThompson for risking his Mavic tool in the mail! My Alain Michel frame now has a nice 2.5mm, 45 degree chamfer and the Mavic sealed bb installed nicely..... This is a great community, knowledgeable and generous.

How about "What came in the post for you this week?" It was a busy one for sure. My 3-speed Raleigh Super Course project is getting closer to completion. I also finally tracked down a CAAD5! Excited to start tricking that out and see how light I can get it without going too crazy. Serendipitously, a Chorus 10spd group set, which I planned to eventually put on the CAAD5, popped up at work this week. It just needs a cassette and a set of skeleton brakes.

Finally found a CAAD5 in my size at a reasonable price. Will eventually change everything on it; the bars and stem will be the first to go.


Destined for the CAAD 5, appropriately worn. The right shifter needs to be gone through. I'll probably sell the front derailleur and get one that matches the rd better.

The guy who spotted this, has assured me it is one if the last remaining prototypes made by Simplex for the C-Record group. Seems to have all the markings of a Simplex logo, so it may be a pretty rare item to have in the parts stash here.
I am going to have some research to get done to find the provenance of this rather rare specimen. Smiles, MH

I spent a few hours earlier this week going through my house in search of a 7mm allen key, couldn't find one, so decided to order a cheap set with every conceivable size, both metric and imperial.

The pliers were a tip from a fellow member. Made for bending jewelry, they also seem to be well-suited for dimpling metal fenders. Thanks, Nemosengineer!

I just used a 7mm yesterday while replacing the brakes on my wife's car. Thankfully, I had one in my socket set so I could use a torque wrench for reassembly. The 18mm socket that I used for the calipers is another size that is frequently omitted from sets.
