Just finished my '86 High Sierra build. Mostly Deore XT M700, with Suntour roller cams and a slightly later Suntour XC Pro crankset.

There is a distinction I would like to make, yours is a Diamond Back, two words, not a Diamondback, one word. The company originally started out with the two word name, and were better built in my opinion. Those were the ones found in Bike Shops. The later one word name were the ones you might find in Walmart. Just an FYI.Here's a thread on BF about them.

Got this Kicker back from a tune-up recently, been enjoying tooling around on it. Bike shop did that to the QRs.

Nope, they're Conti Goliaths, just what came on the bike when I bought it a handful of years back. I kinda wonder if the original purchaser bought it as a F/F, because much of the build matches that of a catalog Wicked Fat, not the Kicker (e.g. Salsa stem instead of Nitto, Deore XT instead of Deore, etc).

Well, I picked up another one.....
This one's a '97 F-300, which makes it the newest old bike I've bought, and the first one with any suspension.
It was more than $10, though, but I liked the look of it enough, that I drove an hour to get it
I've also decided that I LOVE Cannondale's paint - This is the 2nd old C-dale I've found with the paint in excellent shape - They must have used good stuff .........
For 1997, this bike seems almost a throwback for Cannondale, as their MTB's were mostly very technical, full suspension, V-braked jobs, at that time.
It's pretty much original, even to the Coda seat, except the front wheel doesn't match - It's a Sun AT18, and the rear's a Weinmann.
The Rock Shox fork seems in good shape, and everything works, although a bit out of adjustment.
No high end stuff here, just Shimano Altus derailleurs and crankset, Dia Compe canti's (with original grey matter pads), SRAM grippies (which I'll probably change, as I hate grip shifters), and IRC tires.
And I even got the original Cannondale owners manual - I'm the 2nd owner

The only thing I have done so far is remove the original saddle which was beyond repair.
It's destined to be refurbished and given to an old friend who is having surgery in a few months.

Another recent find (as purchased).
I have already replaced the cheap wheels with my backup set. The front derailleur will go back to a XT and I just need to decide which brake levers.

Behold my frankenbike! A late 80s frame with early 90s shimano deore lx. Put a threadless adaptor on it, switched to v-brakes, put on 2.3 Maxxis Ardents. It's currently all taken apart after powdercoating though. I really need to replace the headset sometime....

The cracks in the paint at the points of the head lugs suggest a severe head on collision. Looks like the forks are not straight as well. Look at the head lug on the bottom of the down tube. If paint is chipped, cracked, or missing, have that frame checked before riding it please!

May address at some point, there is no danger, Jim's frames are bulletproof even when tweaked a bit like this.

Beautiful frame, but there are numerous indications of severe over stress beyond the yield point. The bike has given it's warning it has been damaged, next time it will not, it will just fail catastrophically very likely.
