^^^ Wow, you've got some good friend-of-friends! Aerolite pedals (I think), and early Topline road cranks (with the closed backside on the pedal hole). Those almost certainly lived their work life on the funny bike frame.

CL freebie I couldn't pass on even with the virus plus it's my size. Totally practiced the protocol. I even used two sets of gloves for loading and unloading. Lysol sprayed. Tear down probably next week at the earliest.
1991 MB4 with what looks like all oem parts. All the Ritchey goodies are there. Drivetrain and brakes will probably be changed to a Deore LX set I have (sans the LX wheelset as I'd rather use the Ritcheys it has on). I'll order a replacement pair of logo dt decals.

I saw a posting on Craigslist for a "variety of bike frames"... and
I offered $10, seller countered by saying "sure make a donation to your favorite charity", and I upped the donation to $25 to the non-profit bike coop. Picked it up this evening, and it'll sit for a while until I assemble the parts to braze on a new bridge. The rest didn't have much rust happening, but that brake bridge must have been filled with water for years.

Picked up this Miele Svelto this weekend. Tiny for what I ride, but overall great shape. Dating it at a 1993. Has the Exage 500ex group. Anyone familiar with the Columbus CroMor frame? Seems a little heavy to me.

I wonder if the brake bridge was cut off to make rom for wheel/tire clearance of either a 27" wheel or a larger 700C wheel-tire combination that what the frame was designed for and the person using it was using it as a fixed-gear or a single-speed?

Unfortunately, no, it looks like this is a case of the brake bridge rusting away, and possibly even failing catastrophically during braking (!) The top tube cable guides are also rusted away.... this will require a borescope to check all the tubing from the inside before any attempt at repairs are made. If it's toast, at least the "purchase" price went to charity.

Perhaps not headed for the dump; but this one is a bit of a mess. Looks to have been a reasonably high end Peugeot back in the day. What remains of original (going out on a limb here) looks to be the Stronglight crank and headset, Ava stem, and perhaps the original Normandy front wheel and skewer, and Mafac Racer brakes and levers.
The pedals have been changed out to Lyotard berthet pedals; a nice upgrade in my opinion.
The rear wheel has been lost to history and a single speed flip flop substituted in its place. Gone are the original derailleurs and downtube shifters. A decent Brooks B-17 on top of a Strong seatpost in place- I’m not sure if these were original bits Photos:

Bonus points for the Simplex top tube cable clamps remaining, and the derailleur hanger making it through intact!

1971 Peugeot PX-10 is my guess.

Missing simplex criterium rear derailleur, normandy hubs on tubular rims and drop bar. The stem looks to be original and the mafac levers are probably just repositioned on the bar horizontally.

Yes, the Mafac levers are still there in place on the moustache bar. I’m not sure whether to try to source original Simplex parts for the drivetrain, or just put on a set of Cyclone derailleurs and fingertip shifters that are in the parts bin...

Cyclone wont work on the derailleur hanger without modification. Even a claw doesnt seem to line up with the holes to mount one.

The bike, my daughter and I arrived safely last night and all is well here. I wanted to thank you for your generosity regarding the frame and all the other goodies that you gave me...

I expressed an interest in buying the frame should straightblock ever consider selling it and got a PM informing me that he was not interested in "selling" but thinking about building it for himself. He mentioned if he decided not to build it up he would consider "gifting" it to me....as luck would have it my daughter and I were going to the Bay Area the following weekend and I decided to give him a call, he decided that he already had a lot of projects in the works and if I was up his way I could stop by.

We stopped by to see the frame and I offered many times to buy it, I was sincere about buying the bike and parts but he was INSISTENT THAT NO payment was necessary....he wanted to pass it on.

I am looking forward to the possibility of meeting and "drafting" behind the "old fast guy"
I will be posting a new thread on the build after sourcing the parts (wheelset first).

Stem is up about an inch too high. Note the max height marks on the quill. I'd guess the bike is late '70s. That R on the fork blade is a later Raleigh design and both the CPSC-mandated pedal reflectors put it in the '70s but the large rear reflector might even make it '80s. Your rear hub should have a date code stamped in it, two digits for the year with about an inch of space before the month; a 78 6, for example, would be June of '78. Don't know when they last made that model, but a dealer friend in an old-timey Raleigh dealership offered me a '60s version.

Yesterday morning (pre 9 am) I picked up a super inexpensive American Susen, Inc. Asahi mountain bike. No idea what the model is, and sadly it doesn't much matter as the frame is ruined. Was able to date one of the Shimano components to November 1989 on the stamped production code, so likely either a 19890 or 1990 model bike. Didn't take a picture, bike frame was doubtless a looker in it's day though as it's a now corroded chromed frame. Bought it to strip for the components. Rear fork is bent and the down tube is cracked. Such a pity, but I shouldn't complain as the components seem to be in good order inspite of the obvious damage to the frame, and rear wheel.

Was surprised to learn that Asahi is still a bicycle maker in business today, though would appear they only produce and sell in their native Japan market now.

Had the opportunity, at the same estate sale, to also purchase a Magna branded Chinese POS BSO in deceptively good looking condition. But, even at that price a BSO is still a BSO, and my max price to shell out for a BSO is $5, but $5 it was not so an easy pass it was.

...just imagine the tweaking the framebuilder had to do to get that upper head lug from its stock 72 or 73 degree configuration up to the 115, or whatever is the value now...

A buddy came by today and wanted to buy the wheels off the Orient. I told him he had to buy the whole bike but the seatpost was stuck. So, one more try on the seatpost. Took a large pipe wrench and a 4' pipe. We both held the bike flat and went for it. With a pop, it broke free. No sale...looks like I need a 26.4 seatpost.
