50+ the way that it used to be
50+ used to be like the bar on "Cheers". There was a cast of characters like the Deege and Denver who had distinct personalities. Topics were generally related to bicycling or ageing but not always. It was it's own place. Some people didn't like that. They said they felt like they had wandered into a bar where they didn't belong. Their solution was to change the bar and they did.
Know what? 50+ is coming back. The nay-sayers have drifted away and 50+ is ever so slowly returning to the way that it used to be. I like that.
I still miss Denver and the Deege.

I've been here for 12yrs and dont really expect anything to be the same. People come and go, personalities come and go, the atmosphere can change like the seasons. Yes, those no longer posting will be missed, yet there may be dozens or more that wonder what we are talking about. The potential here is ever changing, always imminent.

I hang out mostly on the commuting and touring forums because that's the kind of riding I mostly do. However, my retirement is quickly approaching, so perhaps I should hang out more with the 50+ crowd. However, I still feel like I'm much younger than my 62 years. I don't identify so strongly with age labels.

I fully agree. I have been barely posting in this forum, except the "Did you ride today" thread. I would skim down the list of threads and really found nothing interesting so I would go on to anther forum. Lately, it seems as if the pendulum is starting to swing back toward the old way and I like that.

I can't miss the good old days because I wasn't here at the time, but I likewise don't know what the "problem" was in the near past. I don't recall any issue with spoilsports. Then again I've only been around a few years and maybe they were gone already.
The analogy to a bar is very apt. Like a neighborhood bar, there are regulars, plus folks that drop in from time to time. Some of the "strangers" may hang around a while, and become regulars or they may move on after a little while.
Such is life. For my part, all are welcome, and I'll take them as they are.

I've been here longer than anyone who has posted so far.
The 50+ forum has changed and at times I was like John_V. I'd do a quick look thru the threads and then move on, only occasionally lingering long enough to post something.
Not the same without Dnvr. It was his idea to create the 50+ forum. Here's to you Dnvr.
