Had to take almost a week off due to some sort of non-Corona respiratory illness. Anyhow, did 55 miles this morning, nice and easy. Was definitely dragging the last six or seven miles or so. Sore back, which I never get. I know you aren't supposed to really officially lose any fitness with just a week off, but it was not an easy ride for me. Oh well, onward...

I rode the Jalapeno 100 bike ride in Harlingen, TX. The 65 mile route was a breeze for 21 miles until the route turned east and then south into an 18 to 22 mph headwind. Check my blog in my signature for a detailed story and video link.

Main bike was at the shop for service and a new chain, so I took the trainer bike out on Saturday for a short 30-ish km ride, tempo pace with over-threshold intervals on the short hills. Cracked the armrest of the carbon aero bars on its maiden outdoor ride, lol.
Sunday was occupied by a lot of personal and family stuff, no riding done.

I did my Sunday ride to the coast here in Southern California. About 30 mile round trip under cloudy skies with only a slight breeze. Lovely ! Also suffering some kind of lower back issue so I wasn’t sure I should go , but glad I did. I missed last week and can’t bear to miss 2 weekends in a row. I did a trial run Wednesday and no problem so off I went on my 1972 IralVega. Joe. joesvintageroadbikesroadbikes.wordpress

After having spectacular weather during the week, the weekend hasn't been good. had commitments Saturday and was looking forward to a good ride today. When i started getting ready it was 48 and the sun was out. 15 minutes later, the sun was gone and a chill was settling in. forecast showed a slight chance of rain and usually around here that means zero but not today. Started to sprinkle 2 miles into the ride and the temp dropped some more. I just really wasn't in the mood for a cold wet ride so turned around and went home. Did 40 minutes on a recumbent exercise bike my wife uses and caught up on work email.
In other words, a pretty lousy weekend for cycling.

Saturday was cool and windy again. I rode out to Upper Tampa Bay trail for 40 miles. One way was hell and the other heaven. Sunday my legs were hurting from the first pedal stroke. I was hoping I would work it through and they would feel okay after a bit. However, no. I was on my usual S. Tampa route and cut it short for 33 miles.

56 miles yesterday on the full Springwater Corridor Trail plus a little added on at the end. Low 40s and a bit rainy. Feet pretty cold at the end, as I am not that fast right now and it took me quite awhile. Trying to get ready fro Seattle to Portland. I have some work to do. If I had to do that ride right now, the last half of day 2 would be very hard for me. Need more miles under my belt...

Saturday was garbage weather, but for the best. Friday night I tried to replace the battery in my Edge 520 and cracked the screen while following the steps in the instruction video. Drove up to Porland on Saturday and bought a new unit, as I can't be without data for as long as it takes Garmin to repair stuff.
Sunday had better weather, but I was mentally checked out. I'm supposed to race in Northern CA Saturday of this coming weekend, but the weather forecast is calling for rain the day before the race and snow on race day with a low of 26F. This would be the second race in a week that gets canceled for me, if it ends up going that route. It's hard to mentally deal with the disappointment of unfulfilled stoke and can put a damper on the physical aspect of the sport. Reminds me of why I quit racing a few years ago.
Sunday on Zwift:
Some Sweet Spot work with a 4x3 suprathreshold set near the end.
Time: 2:02
Normalized Power: 273W

I went out last night for my 27 mile Davis Is. evening ride. Almost saw a rollerblader get creamed in a crosswalk by a car. I yelled "crosswalk" about a half second too late, but the car fortunately stopped and the rollerblader thump herself on the front side of the hood. No injuries. One thing that I noticed about my TI bike is it's unnatural ability to attract high winds.
