Slightspeed , I don't care if you won this mission or not, I just want to know where this place is, and how good is their chilli dog?
Also, your bike is the perfect bike to be in this pic.

"extinct?" Yes, but "persevered against the odds". I guess I'm confused. Not the first time for that.😉
Do they want two pictures? I saw this Batmobile yesterday. Didn't get the bike in the shot, but does that count for extinct?

I think he wants two pictures for each entry. So, you fulfilled the “preserved against all odds” clause and now you need to find something that used to be ubiquitous but is now extinct/abandoned, like an empty Sears. I could be misinterpreting though.

That said, I’m going to go lawyer-mode on this and argue that batmobiles were never “something that used to be everywhere” nor are they now “dead” (in the sense that Blockbuster/Sears is):
There’s actually a really cool black Lamborghini in my city that is decked out as a batmobile; I’ve seen it a few times but can’t find a pic.
Tbh I’m just trying to buy time until my weekend so I can attempt my own post

Got it. The game is still open as far as I'm concerned. I'll keep looking for the extinct business. Have fun guys. The Batmobile is in Granada Hills, CA, extreme north end of San Fernando Valley. Just a shell and tube frame, next to a house. I don't know what its story is, but I pass by all the time, it's just sitting there.

I could get a picture of the shoe repair shop right downtown but I didn’t figure that was much fun. It’s the same store that was there in 1970 when I needed my Detto Pietro shoes get cleats mounted for my PX10. You know the metal cleats with a slot to fit on the pedal. Over the years that shop has done a lot of things. Like luggage zipper repairs to sandal straps and the always popular suitcase locks. You mean your town doesn’t have one? Sad for you.

My mission assignment: Extinction and survival in two parts.
I want to see something that used to be everywhere and now is dead-- Sears, Blockbuster Video, etc. We still have the husk of a Mr. TV/Video locally, empty for like 20 years. There are so many defunct K-Marts and Sears I could make an album of just those.
Then I want to see something that has persevered against the odds-- TV repair, shoe repair, a standalone place that sells something like lawnmowers. Next town over we have an honest to goodness cobbler-- in a building less than 6 feet wide.
.

.
Sewing machines and vacuum cleaners. Think they still do some repair.
Extinct:
Sears Auto Center.
Do I win?

Clip Clip. Next: Hospital
Barber school.
Located in what was once a K-Mart.
It's been a bit slow this week so let's pick up the pace, and with the coronavirus rate increasing, let's remember the people on the front line.
Next Mission: Your bicycle at a hospital.

Hospital, you say? I call this selection, "a quartet in the increasing ferocity of the July sun."
St. Bernadine's, San Bernardino Community, LLUMC, Redlands Community. Hospitals are like... far apart. That was a 35 mile loop to get to four of 'em.
Next Mission: SMOKESTACK!

Eek. Must have been mind fog from wearing a mask. (jk) But I swear I put one in.
But might as well add these shots while I’m at it:
So, this story is repeating all over the world. Our streets are changing, perhaps permanently?
Previously sacrosanct parking spaces are being converted into outdoor dining patios. And we aren’t talking about losing one or two precious parking spaces, but dozens and dozens, for whole blocks or squares.
Whole streets are being closed to thru traffic to give people space to walk, play, or ride. Speed limits are set to 10 mph or 15-20 km/h.
In some places people are taking their folding chairs to the street, setting them up, byob social distance social hour (around here, Friday evening 6:00 pm, 18:00).
Next mission: Street Changes.

The Greenspot Bridge. Built for rail traffic in 1912, and used in that capacity until around the 1940s. Converted to a roadway when the rails were removed, used for road traffic until (I think) 2010 when I new roadbridge was constructed. Bridge sat until 2016, when it was restored, and converted to a multi-use path, which is intended to be part of a larger pathway system that may or may not ever be completed. Out of frame to the near right, the Seven Oaks Dam; waaaayy out of frame (and well beyond the horizon) to the left, the Pacific Ocean. Bonus: box 'o White Claws near the railing.

View of New Greenspot Bridge from Old Greenspot Bridge.
We let our old bridges go to such ruin that we had to build a brand new bridge nearby, and this old one is going to be replaced, someday. The plans look nice, I might even get a chance to ride on the finished product during the 2020's.

Not an entry, but I used to work for this helicopter company and have flown with many of those pilots. The skill involved in 'tossing' 3000 gallons of water ~60 yards and nailing the fire like this is ridiculous. I never worried about safety when flying with these guys. They would land with the wheel in 2' circles every time.

As one of California's four seasons is "Fire," we have our very own air tanker base just down the road, about 4 miles from my house. And we get the big ones-- both of the DC10s are here, I've seen the 747 a few times. The helicopters and the C-130 have been going straight over the house all day, I think they're still working on a fire up near Forest Falls that started sometime over the weekend. Also of note, the air-drop fire ******ant manufacturer Phos-Chek is from right down the road in Rancho Cucamonga, about 25 miles away. The Tanker Depot has massive tanks of it.

Watched them install the equipment and paint it. (It was painted and modded in Marana, AZ). If you watch the video on their website of the painting, the timelapse camera was mounted right over my office door in the hangar.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.
Next mission: Something on fire.
