I'm not THAT tall (only 6'2"), but it's all from my waist up. Last pair of bib shorts I bought strangled my cojones so bad that I needed to wear a "cup"! I'm 165 lbs, generally a 33" waist, and wear a size 42L jacket. What brands actually FIT somebody like me without breaking the bank?

You don't need bibs. They are just complicating your search for good shorts. With your physique, especially the slim waist, there is nothing positive that bibs can do for you. Forget the bibs and wear standard shorts.

I'm 6'4 and find LG bibs to be the best fitting for my stature and every time I try to buy something different I end up hating them and right back to the LG's. Due to the heat down here I've been thinking about going back to shorts just to loose that extra layer underneath my jersey, its been that hot lately. Bibs do have their advantages but like Robert said above, nothing wrong with a good pair of shorts.

Assos and several brands sell "long leg" versions of their bibs. These are designed to fit taller riders. The straps will be snug, but that's not a bad thing.

I'm 6'2 myself and have three pair of aerotech bibs in tall. Im Really sold on them.

Oh, I reread your post and misread what you said. I think your options are to just go with shorts or see a tailor to lengthen the straps. I've never heard of anyone offering bibs with longer straps, but everything else kept the same.

6'3" here, I also find LG bibs to be a good fit. I ordered and returned a few different brands before I finally settled on LG. Wish I had just gone to a LBS and saved the hassle of trial and error.

6'2" as well. I recently bought a pair of Bontrager Velocis bib shorts and was actually surprised at how loose the straps were. I have a pair of Assos S7 Equipe shorts as well and the straps are much more snug. Both are size large. My waist is... not 33". More like 36.

I get your point, but it is not quite the same thing. In this case holding out for bibs is what is causing OP's problem. We are getting to the point where some noobs don't even know that not-bibs even exist. Most advice to buy shorts is specifically to buy bibs. Not-bibs aren't even being considered anymore. Telling him the alternative form of shorts don't have the problem is, IMO, helpful. More like this using your wine example:

Q: "Red wine gives me the runs. Can you recommend one that doesn't."
A: "No, sensitive folks find that problem with many if not all red wines. It's hit or miss. But did you know that white wine doesn't have that problem at all."

Sure, not exactly what was asked, but not unhelpful either."

Oh, and by the way, if the thread topic were "Please Recommend Some Not-Bibs That Don't Bind My Huge Waist", wouldn't a large fraction of the responses say to just switch to bibs? What's the difference here?
