So which TDF riders would you bet, never cheated.

So which top 5 TDF cyclists would you choose as 100% PED free, transfusion free.....and cheat free...oh and if you got any answer wrong, let's pretend you'd lose your right arm.

Here is mine:

1) TERPSTRA Niki
2) DE JONGH Steven
3) HIVERT Jonathan
4) KLIER Andreas
5) HUTAROVICH Yauheni

I wouldn't take that bet for anyone, although there are some cyclists I would be disappointed in if they turn out to be doped.

My first thought on seeing the thread title was the guys at the very back of the pack. But I think I'll pass on answering because I don't like the odds on that bet. I kind of like my arm.

Who??

Anyone see a disconnect here?

Or are you proposing that these are all that's left after eliminating the first 175 dopers?

I'll venture to say Jens Voigt too. He just seems to be a terrific human being all around. I'll be extremely disappointed if Jen's name come up in any doping investigation/claim.

I don't think LeMond doped ... or if he did, he didn't use the good stuff because he got blown away when epo became available.

I don't think that there is any modern TDF racers who haven't used PED to some extent. The guys who are clean usually can only function as domestiques in single day and shorter stage races. At least in the European tour. The speeds are too fast for non PED users. They can only hang for a couple of days and are shelled. The only Pro Tour riders who are likely to be clean are first or second year pros whom the team is testing out for ability and willingness to enter into a "medical program". Or a few really good domestiques who can still limp in under the time cut after doing their job.

I may be naive, but I would doubt the following racers were into doping: Anquetil, Poulidor, Van Impe, Zootemelk, Coppi, Merckx, Ocana... How about Hinaut?

Of course, you have to define doping first... But if we are talking about blood doping, when would you say it started? 80s? 90s?

Oh yes, you are very naive. Doping at that time wasn't as efficient and sophisticated as it is today but they took all kinds of **** of that would be illegal now and some of these cyclists were actually even notorious for their drug use. Most people just didn't care much about it back then and controls and penalties were much more lenient.

Given that Merckx actually tested positive and was suspended, you might want to rethink that. (or did you mean Axel?)

Haha, why let facts get in the way of a good fantasy.

The question was pretty clear... "100% PED free, transfusion free.....and cheat free".

No mention of "blood doping" specifically.

Wasn't it Anquetil who all but confessed to using Performance enhancement when he said 'Do they think we do this on mineral water?'?

Only winner I 'd take a risk on would be Gino Bartoli. I thnik the barrier to use of illegal drugs was as high as it can get in his case. (Look up his nickname).
