Yeah I like the suntour shifters too. Looks like they should have been standard issue on the 84 Sport but this one aligns more closely with the with the Sport XT specs including the color and Blackburn rear rack

We had a couple of those in the shop that gathered dust. We bought them for a 'one-off' machine that ended up getting parked in the weeds.

I started a search and all the plastic fenders seem to be available in black only. I even looked on Ebay, but nothing piqued my interest there, at least as far as fenders. White seems to be harder to find than silver. I don't like buying fender used anyway. I've gotten burned with missing hardware before.

I will save the hardware from this broken fender set.

@Velo Mule, SKS still makes the chromoplastic fenders. I like them. They are some amalgam of plastic and aluminum, combining the good traits of both except that they're probably not recyclable. I guess if we want white, we will need to use paint.

Just a few minutes job, but the steerer is ready for the locknut and spacers. The crown race ring still needs some filing down, but getting there. And still need some spacers, all the ones I have are fairly thin.

I've been down with a bug most of last week and through the weekend, so I haven't accomplished much. I did feel up to running a bunch of gunked-up shifters through a zillion passes in the ultrasonic cleaner, and they seem to all be clicking happily, even after the "Below Zero Test." Considering that some of them wouldn't move at all prior to cleaning, let alone give even one click, I suppose it's an accomplishment.



I think what I will do is collect a few more photos of the process and write it up in the Bicycle Mechanics forum for posterity, to share a method that seems to work for a much longer time than the popular "flush and rush" method seen in videos and other discussions.

I've begun hoarding curating a collection of fenders and hardware, as a number of my bikes have them (they're very useful even in places where it doesn't rain often) and they do eventually fail from age & vibration. Unfortunately, I don't have anything in white or in 27" / 700C size.

Today I've orderd Specialites TA bottom bracket spindle in 116mm, hoping it will work with Sugino cups and fit Stornglight 105bis crankset well. So things are slowly coming together. After going through my box of small parts I have dug out yet another French headset. I took it off an old, broken Peugeot frame found at a roadside few years back and I'm glad I kept it. The crown race on this one (very likely made by Stronglight anyway), whilst still 26.4mm, doesn't have a lip like Stronglight P3 one. It's also a complete match compared with P3's one when it comes to the thickness of it and curvature of the race. So I will be using this one instead, but still need to work a bit on the steerer tube with a file.
It's a tedious task, I'm deliberately slow, measuring it very often and trying to get it as even, as I possibly can. It's not a modification which can be reversed and I don't want to end up with a crown race that's too lose. But, getting there.

I have put bike projects on hold for a while while I do some water damage repair on my 1965 Shasta compact trailer. I bought it about 12 years ago with what appeared to be a small leak at the roof vent that was just the tip of the proverbial ice burg leading to my stripping it down to the chassis and compleatly rebuilding it. In the process I did the framing first, the exterior second and the interior paneling last, the opposite of how it was originally put together, and thus I was able to deconstruct it from the inside, exposing the framing and replacing the rotten wood without removing the exterior aluminum. It is currently raining so I am waiting for the weather to clear up before replacing the leaking roof vent seal and making new plywood panels for the interior.

Victory! That was tedious and time consuming, but the crown race is on. Headset spacers arrived yesterday. I need to give them a nicer finish at some point, so they blend better with chromed locknut and serrated spacer, but the headset sits nicely. The narrower spacers, or at least one of them, will be eventually replaced with reflector holder sometime next week. Since I got the Jubilee derailleurs, I decided to try them on. Both need cleaning and overhaul, especially the rear one, which feels a bit too stiff for my liking, but they do look rather decent. The next step will be shortening and slimming of the seatpost to cut unnecessary weight and make sure it fits the seat tube perfectly and then I need to sand down the stem a bit as well. If all goes well, I might actually be able to test the ride quality in a few days.

The Graveller has some new shoes and a fancy drivetrain. Still waiting for the new handlebars to replace all the cables but this (+two fork packs) is basically how I am going to spend my summer again. Cycling from Paris to Santiago de Compostella.
I'll probably go out and look for (or make) a bag to also carry a tent on the rear rack safely but other than that it is in rideable condition. The plan is to still build a new rear wheel with a new hub but for now this will do nicely.

The chain has been waxed so I'm curious to see how that performs and the new jockey wheels are just, well they work and spin smoother than the Shimano originals.

The Soma tyres with tubular casing that were on here originally seem to be popping strands left and right so it looks like they are going in the spare bin. At the very least they lasted for 3000+ km and several years on some wild terrain. Fairly decent for a lightweight tyre like this.

The not vintage project is ready for a new home. While far from perfect, there is lots of life left in this one. The coaster brake rear hub was definitely a learning experience for me.

Just finished this non-C&V build. It's a NOS 2014 VooDoo Marasa hybrid frame I bought from the UK built as a 1X9. The initial test ride felt good but not sure if it's a keeper yet. Pretty sure it's the only one on my block.
