Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Brita Climate Ride - Route?

Does anyone know where I can get the exact route for the Brita Climate Ride from NYC to DC? I've checked places like mapmyride and ridewithgps, but can't find this route. The website for the ride includes a general description of the route, but not the exact route.

Thanks.

Whatever. I'm not doing the ride. I just need a good NYC to DC route for a ride I'm planning.

1) Ferry to Highlands, N.J. from World Financial Center.

2) Get a New Jersey Road map. Follow the Jersey Shore to Cape May. There is a stretch where Route 9 disappears and becomes one with the Garden State parkway which prohibits bikes. It's only a mile or two so ride it like you stole it.

3) Ferry from Cape May to Lewes Delaware.

4) Follow the Delaware coast to Ocean City, Md.

5) Now you need aother local map. Turn west and take the low traffic, county roads that parallel Route 50. (Lots of opportunities to zig zag, explore, site see, and eat great sea food on the eastern shore.)

6) Route 50 bridge over the bay to Annapolis, Md. Call ahead and they will send a pick up truck to carry you across because bikes aren't allowed on the bridge.

7) You'll need a local map to find local, lower traffic roads that parallel Route 50/301 from Annapolis to DC.

We did a lot zigging and zagging on the Eastern Shore and turned it into a 500 mile plus CC tour and took Amtrak back to New York. Two days were 100 miles plus, a few were only 30-40 miles and a few only 5-10 local miles. The Jersey Shore and Eastern Shore are big tourist areas so there are plenty of motels and restaurants.

Did you really just suggest that the OP ride down a limited access roadway and just "go fast so as not to get caught"?

Sound advice here in the 41.

Yep. It's either take a beautiful, smooth shoulder as fast as you can ride or do a 40 mile loop. We've done it a few times. No one is forcing you to do it. If you do the ride, you do have a choice.

@adamgoldberg: take your trolling somewhere else.

@paul01: I need this route for a small charity ride, so it needs to be legit. Plus, given our limited time frame to complete the ride, the Cape May Ferry is out. Too much waiting, too slow, etc. Thanks anyway.
