Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

So you are the filthy bastard who bought the bike...I had always wanted a Circle A and thought there is no way Chris is going to stop in the next few years, I can shore up some cash to get one built, then I found the post on teh eBays and was like damnit I need that but no have monies! It is a sweet bike, take care of it as it is an end of an era. I got lucky recently a dude rolled though our shop with a Chapman Cycles Mixte (Brian Chapman used to work at Circle A) he had built up using vintage as fux components and we chatted for over an hour about it and vintage stuff.

This is an older/different style frame, obviously, but you can see that the black frame/celeste fork color combination works (though this one has the additional benefit of celeste stays).

Yeah, I am bummed about Circle A closing but Chris is going back to school which is applaudable. Jay finished the last one under the name on July 12th I think for a friend of ours. Was the Mixte the one with one shorter crank arm? I remember chatting with Brian in his workshop when he was building it. He makes damn beautiful bikes though.
But I ended up giving in and buying this bike from my co worker who was selling it. Turns out its a near perfect fit.

Elegant setup, particularly for a bike with that many moving parts. Good job on the build. I assume you ride it only on tortuous trails given the tiny chainring.

What's going on with that saddle? Do you just have a cover on it?

I did for three years; I owned my own company, GoNow, in DC. Actually, I still own the company, but operations are suspended for now. Sometimes I miss it; others, I really do not.

Yeah it's a leather saddle (S-A) that is almost completely stretched, so I keep a Brooks cover on it full time. It's not much to look at anyways, but it's perfectly comfy. This is going to be my rando bike, so it will be experiencing a lot of wet weather.

Very nice! I always liked internal cable routing. Looks like you missed a spot by the brake lever though.

The tape job is a bit sloppy, def... I rewrapped the tape that was on there before the levers. Eventually I'll replace with some nice Cinelli tape I got from Scrod.

Still waiting on some Schindelhauer parts so the wheels are not mounted but here's what the front looks like next to the stock wheel. When I'm done my Viktor will have a split personality; urban with the stock wheels (28c), handlebars and 60T/30T gearing, or pseudo Triathlon with the SL42 wheels (23c), SRAM Automatix 2-speed and Deda Bandito aero bars.
