Today I decided that I am going car insurance shopping. AAA is raking me over the coals given my age, record, and car.

Just saying it's not surprising that your two nice bikes weigh less than a cheaper (read: still nicely built) single speed. Even considering both your nice bikes made for giants.
And, I didn't say a nice (rare, one off, call it what you will) bike shouldn't be ridden. I'm all about folks that have a collection of bikes they beat up on a regular basis.

It surprises me how some people manage to stick with AAA to get their "25 or even 50 year member" AAA license plate frames.

Today it is snowing and it is not expected to stop until it dumps about 5-7" of snow and there is already at least an inch or two. I work at 3pm. It is really cold out, high of 22° F and a low of 4° F. I have a fat bike.

As I age, I’m getting far less tolerant of frigid weather. Gonna be in the mid 70’s here today.

Would much rather have that honestly. When life hands you lemons, you take those lemons and you kick their ass by riding your bike in frigid temps and slippery conditions. Honestly, it will probably take me as long to drive and it will be more frustrating sitting in a car sliding all over the place.

I think the chemicals must have gotten better because I didn't ever have any trouble with rust in Buffalo. Then again, around here they are still driving datsun z cars or 1979 chevy trucks - not because they are classics but just because they are still running.

My ride this morning sucked. 3 hrs/55 mi of zone 2 up and down the coast, out at 5:45 AM.
Stiff, uncooperative legs and cold, cold microclimates surrounding rivers and creeks, which was a lot of the early portion. This Santa Ana weather pisses me off. Big temperature differentials due to low humidity, prevailing winds in the wrong direction making things slow, and dry air that chaps my lips and is bad for the lungs. Not comfortable at all.
I thought about turning back early and didn't, probably should have.

learned to drive a stick on our social studies teacher's Datsun 240 Z. senior year car wash 1977. he gave me the keys & I asked if I could take it for a spin. my buddy gave me my 1st lesson in his car, forget what he had. then me & Sherry took it all around town. I was fearless. kept stalling it even on big busy roads in traffic. Sherry kept laughing her a*s off. it was green. thank you Mr. T. for the lifelong memory

Today I joined Training Peaks..
@TMonk, do you have any suggestions for providers of training plans? I need structure and have an event 11 weeks out. I'd just like to do better than finishing exhausted and am thinking of one of the plans from Velocious/Tim Cusick. Any experience with them?
Do you know of any place else that might have good plans, maybe even for free?

I don't have any personal suggestions - I've learned what I know from reading books and applying what I've learned with HR and power data. I'd like to think that I'm fairly good at "training" at this point but I'm sure I could be fitter (at the same time expenditure) with some guidance.
I have a couple teammates at higher levels that use some of the Training Peaks canned plans and they seem to be pretty damn strong . Some of it is in their nature but they seem to speak pretty highly of the Training Peaks stuff. I'd probably look no further myself if I was going for something like that.
Good luck in your event! What is it, if you don't mind me asking?
edit: glancing at the weekly training load bar graph, it seems pretty par for the course, three one (building), one easy. I'm currently at a pretty similar level in regards to both volume and TSS, maybe 10-15% higher. The magic is going to come from the specific workouts they have you do of course.
