Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Came home from the hotel last night, and we no longer have ductwork, and instead of heater registers, we have plastic taped over holes. Our old broken furnace sits in its same spot, but with flue and ducts gone, it looks forlorn.

Our HVAC guy wants to put the registers in different places - which, having no ducts anymore, we could. BUT he also wants to put the unit in the attic crawlspace, which makes sense from the point of view of the physics (centralize heat/cooling and the farthest registers are no longer the length of the house away), but the idea of a gas-fired furnace in the attic of our wood frame house makes both Mrs. GeneJockey and me freak out - "I'm gonna light a fire in your attic to keep you warm!"

And yet I understand this is all the rage. And I haven't heard of any problems with it. But "fire in the attic" is a nonstarter with us. We'll see where we end up.

We have Circle K and Church's Fried Chicken here. I don't frequent either. NTTAWWT.

Wow, both companies have expanded a bit since I've been back east I guess. When I left the east coast in 1980ish, there were no Circle Ks or Church's in NC, VA, or NJ that I know of.

In other local news, an Auburn player from Alpharetta just got injured. You might've seen him around town.

We have 2 furnaces in our attic. 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs. Easier to push cold, heavier air down using gravity is my guess. We run A/C ~7 months per year. ~2 months per year nothing much is used and 3 months are for heating.

we had Church's Fried Chicken in the 90's in Ohio and I saw circle K in Miami in 1986. We also had a circle k in Ohio in the 00's. YMMV. (Your memory may vary)

It took a couple '52 degrees in the Living Room' mornings to convince Mrs. GeneJockey to leave the oil-filled radiator space heater on low overnight.

There is a church’s chicken in Charlottesville, Va.

Circle K are all over the place in Charlotte, NC.

The only cook out I have ever enjoyed was in New Bern, NC. All others have been a let down.
