Looking for new 9 speed drivetrain components

I don't consider my 16-1/2 year old Litespeed (2001 Tuscany) to be vintage but it is a classic. It has the original drivetrain with well over 40,000 miles and shifting has been getting a little tricky for a while. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a source for a NEW (or LIGHTLY used) 9 speed Ultegra rear derailleur. I'm also looking for a NEW (or LIGHTLY used) Ultegra 53-39, 9 speed crankset (Octalink - crank arms, chain rings).
I've been searching for a few weeks with no luck. If I can't find what I need I'm considering upgrading the drivetrain (because this bike is my favorite ride) to 11 speed just so I'll be able to get replacement parts for a while.
Thanks.

There's tons of 6500 stuff on ebay. The NOS parts will cost an arm and a leg. You can also use 6600 parts.

After 40k miles you may find other parts start to feel worn out as you replace bits piece by piece. Once you get into replacing shifters, derailleurs and cranksets a whole new groupset is probably a good idea. 105 11 speed group is probably your best bang for your buck or 11 speed ultegra if you want the street cred and shave a couple hundred grams.

I'm 72 years old so weight is not a concern.

I would also look at the Shimano Tiagra groupset, which shares a fair amount of technology with the 105 but a 10-speed. At levels below the Tiagra I'm slightly more leery of Shimano groupsets, though none are bad at all and would shift well.

As others have noted, why not a whole new groupset? You can find the Tiagra online for barely over $300 and 105 for barely over $375.

I mentioned in my original post that if I can't find what I need I'm considering upgrading to 11 speed.

Most 10-speed Shimano road rear derailleurs will work with 9-speed Shimano road shifters. The exception is 4700-series Tiagra. Everything else will mix and match. You should have no problem finding NIB 6700-series Ultegra rear derailleurs, and they're probably cheaper than NOS 6500-series.

Don't go to 11 yet. Consider 7700 parts and widen the selection. I luv my 9 speed and recently got a little used 7700 group because I wanted the 172.5 Cranks. I should be good til death do us part. I have an octalink BB waiting at the LBS for another bike that has a Ritchie crankset.

Ebay. If it isn't there today, it will be tomorrow. You may have to buy it one piece at a time but it can be found.

I'm rebuilding a 2002 Bianchi Veloce. I wanted new and price wise just didn't like what I was seeing in Campy components. I thought long and hard about the choice between the 105 and triple Tiagra-- I know the 105 has more street cred and is probably more future proof with 11 speeds, but I am old fashioned in that I really like triples-- middle ring for gentle slopes and flats, other rings for steeps. I know compacts make them unnecessary but for me they're worth the slight weight penalty.

I agree with your reasoning about triples, but I also agree with Lazy about sticking with Campy. I built a bike with those 2014 Centaur shifters earlier this year and they work great. New Campy derailleurs can be expensive (and hard to find in silver), but you can find used ones in really good shape for a reasonable price.

Is there anything functionally wrong with the crankset? Even if NOS 6500 chainrings are getting scarce (I haven't checked), there are any number of 9/10-speed road chainring sets that should do the job.
