Your Weekend Ride Reports -- June 13/14

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Went yesterday, had to turn around. The wind was so bad it was throwing me all over the road, nearly got hit by a car. Did manage to find another pass that was doable and had nice views

Yesterday’s ride featured a stop at a beach to watch horseshoe crabs mating.

I managed 29 miles Friday, slept most of Saturday, 51 miles Sunday. Hardest part this month has been heat adaptation. Gets harder every summer.

My neck is gonna need more physical therapy to handle more than 50-75 miles. I've slacked off my home PT work the past few weeks. I need to get back to that. It was helping.

94km tempo-paced solo ride on Sunday. The photo was snapped at the halfway point during the ride, outside a famous Buddhist temple in the area. Didn't go into the courtyard for more pictures (social distancing stuff).

Did my usual 55 mile loop in Westchester. Great day for biking, with a pleasant breeze that turned into gusty cross-winds part of the way. Started getting hot towards the end of the ride. Still not as many cars on the roads here compared to last year.

78 miles via roundabout route to the coast and up to La Selva Beach before heading back through Watsonville and back home. Fought a lot of wind on the outbound and enjoyed its company on the return.

How did you snap this photo with all of the information contained in the image?

The Garmin Connect phone app can do that. After the ride has been saved, there is a share button which lets you share a photo with stats on social media. Of course, you don't actually have to share it on social media - just go through the steps until it asks you where to share it on, then back out. The image has already been saved on the phone (though I don't remember exactly which folder, but it shows up in the photo gallery when I browse for it to post).

Tuesday I did a little longer evening ride to Picnic Is. for 30 miles. Thursday there was rain in the afternoon forecast, and having learned my lesson last week, decided to just ride to Davis Is. Turned out to be a good idea since about two miles from home the rain started. I made it into the garage just as the rain and lightning really got going. 26 miles. Saturday was a wash out. Sunday I had a very nice 43 mile ride out to Flatwoods park and back.

Back on the road - in North Carolina for the next month and a half, before returning to Wisconsin. It seems to be rollers and trees, all day long.

I managed 47 miles, 2700' on Saturday, and an easy 17.6 miles, 900' on Sunday. Getting back in shape is hard...but I'll get there, eventually.

Cool. Thanks! I'll look for the share button after my next workout.

Friday was 62 miles and Sunday was 77. The wind was strong, but at least temps were cool. I unexpectedly discovered a memorial to the lost souls on Flight 93 on 9-11. It's in Union City, CA. The flight was headed to SF. I thought is was very nice.
