Nice. What is the vintage of that bike? Are you Czech, by chance?

I am really not sure the vintage, late 60's early 70's possibly....I have had the bikes for a long time, stumbled on them the other day and thought I might get one built up to look at.

I am not Czech.

Still being new to biking, I am consistently astounded that stuff like this is still hanging around in boxes waiting to be assembled.
Un...real.

Isn't that bizarre ---
Who would buy a Schwinn 1971 Paramount and not ride it.......I am not worthy of maiden voyage, so here it sits in UN-ridden condition.

Very cool, Wheeltired. How about the story of how and when you obtained these bikes? I like a good story, as I know others here do.

BTW, was Favorit a marque that made it into the U.S. in numbers? I don't remember ever seeing them.

Also, it looks like the Czechs made every component on that bike, including maybe even the tires.

yes, they had an authorised agent in the u.s. during the bike boom years. it was called
American Jawa and was located in New Jersey. bicycle badges also included Rapido, Jawa and Pioneer.

thanks for posting this machine. it is interesting that it has tubs yet does not have a tab. the lowest model i have seen in the past with tubs had a tab. i had one of these models new; it was a flambouyant chartreuse colour and dated from about 1972-73.

do you have a collection of them? or are you selling the others?

thanks for any additional information.

Wow- great information above.
I have a bunch of others still NIB, not for sale. Some day perhaps.
This is the first one that I built after looking at the boxes for years in our storage container.

The gentleman I aquired the bikes from mentioned he imported these when schwinn workers were on strike in the late 70's, stuck the unsold bikes in the rafters of his shop and forgot about them until recently.

Typing on a silly phone :/

thanks very much WheelTired. hope you will be able to add some photos of the others you have which are still boxed. btw - i like this colour. the two base model colours my local shop had in about 1973 were an ugly muddy burgundy and an overcooked stringbean green.

they had one example of a model that was partially Campag NR and partially Favorit equipped. it was flambouyant red.

have never known a model name for the one i owned that was chartreuse flambouyant with all Favorit fittings, tubs and a tab.

thank you again for posting your bike!

I have one of these! Salvaged with a pile of other stuff from an apartment block - the super was clearing out the abandoned stuff.

Mine is a boring grey, and the saddle is a cheap bike boom plastic one... also I don't have the imitation Campy derailleur, mine came with a busted imitation Simplex derailleur, so it is now a singlespeed.

The bike is cheaply made but a couple of items really impressed me. The brake levers have very nice smooth threaded barrel adjusters on them at a time when no one else was doing this. Also, under the handlebar wrap at the bottom of the drops there is a thick rubber sheath, for lack of a better description, over the handlebars. I have only taken my Favorit up and down the block but I suspect this little item does wonders for ergonomics and comfort on long rides.

Love the graphics and the "made in Czechoslovakia" stamped on everything. Thanks for posting!

I'm just going to go ahead and mention the turkey levers on the paramount.

wow that paramount wasn't assembled very properly...

anyway what's up with the dropouts on the favorit ? forged or stamped ?
i see a separate hanger but the DOs seem forged... maybe not.

PS how crazy... tubulars on a gaspipe bike !
