I've always made a point to train on the hottest days of the year (not dangerous hot, like it may be in some areas, but 104F kind of temps), with the assumption that it would help me in races on super hot days. And I've assumed that it is just a short term acclimatization, as in 'this will help in the crit an two weeks if it is a hot day'. But I've never thought about general training benefits to being overdressed.

Speaking only for myself, I don't think it matters at all if heat training improves performance, I wouldn't get on the damn trainer half the time, which I'm pretty sure outweighs any potential benefit. Kind of like what's the best diet? The one you'll actually maintain type deal.

I don't think I've ever seen anything more eighties. And nope, I don't need to make indoor training mentally harder than it already is.

Heat messes me up. Doing FTP/vo2 when it's below 30 out is basically impossible for me because the amount of clothing it takes to not freeze to death also traps all the heat you generate when you go that hard for longer than a few minutes. I get all light headed and pukey and the legs get wonky. It's even worse indoors even with a box fan and the window open. I can't imagine wearing more than bibs while on a trainer, I'd get diaper rash and fall off my bike.
Then I'd wind up in the hospital after hitting my head falling off the trainer and the doctors would be all like bro, you're 30, why you got diaper rash like a little baby? Hey everybody, look at the little baby man with his stupid diaper rash! Then they'd call my emergency contact and tell em about the man child that wears diapers and I'd get dumped and all of my friends would know and the entire town would look at me whenever I was out and about and point and laugh. "There goes the man that does not wipe. Do not talk to this man." they would tell their children. And I'd never live it down and would have to move away to coal country and change my name and try and grow facial hair, which is basically impossible for me to do so I'd have to use mascara all over my face to make the scruff look legit but that gets expensive really quick so I'd probably have to start stealing and would eventually wind up in jail.

the temperature is warming up past the low 20s, though the wind is still howling. I wonder if it is at all wise to go do my workout outside. FWIW, i have a lot of Windstopper gear, which should help. That the sun is out should also help, i think.
If i don't report back by 7pm, i guess i will have perished from hypothermia...

Is that supposed to mean that you won't race when it's hot out?
I once won a cat 4 race (Ontario crit series - SoCal) when it was 95+ out. If I got anything less than a podium, I would have probably regretted it.

If it's a 100 I'm staying home. Hell if it's 95 in probably staying home. We don't have a lot of races where it's above the mid 90s

I distinctly remember racing either the Portland Short Track MTB or Portland International Raceway circuit race weeknight series races above 100 degrees, several times.
With the short track races, they turned the sprinkler system on in a couple of places. Definitely helped, as the average speed was low enough that you weren't getting a whole lot of cooling from the air moving over your skin.

2.5 hours on the rollers. 4*10', 7*30" seated bursts (trying to visualize leading out a race, lol), 40' tempo. that was hard.and no i didn't wear a base layer and ride with no fan.

It's a dry heat here but some of our spring crits are well over 100 for the afternoon races. I am used to it and will take it over cold any day. Drinking water is pretty much a full time job May-September here!

I drove to Chicago a couple years for a couple days of racing. It was 100 degrees when I got to there. At 9am. My race was at 12.
It was very, very dumb.

In addition to the studies, Bicycling did a short article on my coach's heat training plan last year. They also consulted a researcher in the field. It's a quick read, worth checking out for anyone who's curious: Heat Acclimatization | Bicycling.

Two and a bit hours on the trainer yesterday with 3x30' Z3. 3:45 Z2 today. Leg status: medium well.

another 2.5 hours today. did some low cadence/high force efforts in the first hour which are not really reflected by HR but are really painful.
a little up in the air about tomorrow. debating between starting my rest week or taking advantage of my day off to get a workout in.
explain? I don't really do anything terribly out of the ordinary. with the exception that i'm actually regularly doing intervals for the first time in a long time.

It's the particular mix of intervals especially at this time of year. I'm not a coach or anything, it just seems a little all over the map to me. 4x10s (why?) and 30" intervals in the same ride, for example. Even leaving aside the thing where it's February, after all racing starts in only a month, that combination seems odd.
