It depends on what your goal is. If you're looking to boost power IMO you do whatever is necessary to produce the watts. If you're looking to get better at working with the power you've already got, you concentrate more on form.

Just getting back into it, I've been trying to take a bit of each ride to work on form and position. Some time in the drops, some time standing, some time on the tops, some on the hoods. Make sure I spend some time over 100 rpm.

Otherwise I'm so out of shape and uncomfortable on the bike right now that I'd ride around on the tops at 80 rpm.

It seems to me, at least personally, that the more power I'm making the more comfortable I am at a higher cadence. If I'm hammering then 110 or 115 feels good. And 130 or whatever feels fine on the track bike. But when I'm in tempo or below, 95 feels like a hamster. This could be because my overall power is so low right now. If I recovered at 250W then it might feel different.

3x20 @ 85% last night. Unusually tired today. I think the heat (100+F) didn't help matters.

Funny you should say that. Was doing sprints this morning and I think I may just be at the ceiling of what I can produce, and rather than focusing on eking out a few more watts, it would probably be more profitable to train myself to generate those watts longer, smoother, and more aerodynamically.

dude worlds was really, really hard last night.

I only took like 4 or 5 turns on the front and voluntarily pulled out with 2 to go. I felt lazy and tired heading down to the ride, so it felt like the right decision.

Lots of this ... I'm horrible at getting low in a sprint and probably leave quite a bit on the table as a result

I was really talking about vo2, LT, etc. Sprinting is one of them things where form is super important for producing the watts, for me anyway. When my sprint form is janky my watts are much lower than when I do it proper.

2.5 hrs on zwift, CTL at 63.5, just in time to watch it drop when we go out of town for the next week. d'oh

i've been getting numb ring and pinky fingers on my left hand, while on the trainer (so bearing weight isn't an issue, I don't think). i'm assuming it's saddle related (I have set it higher recently), anyone ever have this happen?

This can be from compression of a nerve in your neck. You can start to permanently crunch the back of your neck from long periods in an aero position while you look up. You can test if this is possibly the cause by riding with your head hanging lower, but still in your aero position on a trainer and see if the numbness goes away after a minute or two. It is probably worth seeing a chiropractor if this seems like the cause. They may be able to help or direct you to PT/yoga type stretches to keep your neck nice and long.

Ulnar tunnel syndrome? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_tunnel_syndrome

I experience this. More on cold days, and more when I'm in the drops a lot, like during a crit. I switched to an ergo keyboard and mouse (https://evoluent.com/) at work and it has helped a bit.

Dang! Sorry about that.
Not qualified to answer medical questions but when I had some deep road rash, doc told me no public swimming due to infection.

Me too, on the bike in the drops and at work. Turns out I'm pretty lucky, in that my job involves developing accommodation plans for folks with disabilities affecting their work. For the bike, I make sure that I stretch and rest my hands as much as I can, and it ride tops and hoods a lot.

For work, I use a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 ($30 on Amazon). I also recommend the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop (~$80 on Amazon) for a lot of clients.

Teammates and I punched each other in the face for like 5.5hrs yesterday. TSS somewhere in the 340-360 range, I forgot to clear my computer's data so it had no memory left to record stuff. Basically I went harder than I should have for the first 2 hours, then we climbed a big mountain and I felt meh up it, then we went down the mountain and I felt less meh so I got obnoxious and attacked a lot and rode like a jackass until it was apparent my jackassery was ruining the chi, then there were other attacks and instead of following I paced a teambro that fell off the back so he could recover at a steady pace, then I 100% bonked with about 20-30 minutes to go cuz I thought we only had a few miles left and didn't bother eating my last bit of food. Fun times! All of my rides above 300tss are team rides. We...might...have a problem...

Ugh that spot on your oblique looks deep. Possibly enough to see a doc to get it stitched up? Looks almost like a flesh wound than an abrasion.

And with wounds like this i definitely wouldn't swim for fear of bacteria getting in the wound.

Took the entire 3-day weekend off, just wasn't feeling it. Got back this morning by working on variability index some more. Intended to do 3 sets of 6x1' @ 135% (with a 90" rest @ 50%), but couldn't finish the last minute of the last set. All said and done, 1:26 total, VI of 1.21, and TSS of 118.

Another 800+ TSS week last week, another one on tap this week.

CTL should break 100 soon, hide your pets!
