Panasonic dx-2000

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb...448909641.html

$140
Appears to have all original parts.
Has Shimano shifters & derailleurs.
DiaCompe brakes and levers.
Tourney 52/42 Crank set,.
Araya rims with Super smooth Shimano Hubs, Uniglide 13-23t cassette(recently cleaned and greased) super clean spokes and tires.
Panasonic platform pedals.
Avocet touring saddle.
New shifter, brake cables, and bar tape.

So, I am interested in this rather tall bike. I've been reading a little and it seems like a Ok bike, but is it work $140? It looks clean and nice, except for that one dent. I still feel rather ignorant, so is there anything I should know about these bikes? I read a post in the archives that said it has tubular rims =/

I emailed the guy about some stuff like TT length, stem length, handle bar width, and rim size. I'm not sure I want it if it has 27" wheels, I don't want to bother setting it up with 700c wheels and then getting new calipers. Tubular rims might also be an issue.

What do you think of this thing?

This bike has 27 inch clincher rims. If the frame fits you, I would say this all original bike at $140 is a bargain. Maybe not a bargain but not bad at all. Panasonics are fine quality bikes & this model dx2000 was known to be a super value when new.

Well it will be a close fit. My inseam is 39inches, sooo there's little clearance. I don't even think there will be much room to raise the saddle

Ah, quick Google search clears up the 'issue' of the 27" wheels

My understanding is that LA is an extremely high priced market.

Sounds like a good deal to me, but then again I'm out here in the sticks and we don't exactly have an abundance of vintage bikes from which to choose. I just purchased an older Panasonic Sport in good condition for $120, which in a lot of markets would be way overpriced. Around here though it is probably about right.

One thing to note, the extremely large frame will reduce the number of people who would be interested in the bike. This might allow you to negotiate a bit as there will be fewer potential buyers with whom you will be competing.

From the picture, this appears to be either a 26 or 28 inch frame DX=2000. Price is fair=condition looks very good. You should have 1 to 2 inches of clearance over the top tube when you straddle the frame. I think that with a 39 inch inseam you should be OK, but better try it first.

I didn't get it. Turns out the frame is high-ten, I don't want to pay $100 for that.

They are great bikes. I owned one and exchanged it because of fit issues.
I am guessing 1982 or earlier, because you said it was hi-ten steal as was mine.
I would get it for that price but it is way too tall for me. I saw it on CL and thought it was a bargain.
Large frame bikes are rare. If it is a good fit jump on it even at $140.

I had one and rode it a bit. It was nice, but I gave it away eventually. Oh well, it was free to begin with

I actually raced on one of these in the early 80's. They are nice bikes.
