The words are not interchangeable. Each has a clear and concise definition.

A seat is something that you sit on and put your legs in front of you.

A saddle is something that you sit on and straddle your legs around, not in front. See that? Straddle-saddle? The name is no coincidence.

You wouldn't go into a restaurant and request the saddles with the nice view, now would you? No, I thought not.

You wouldn't pay the airline extra for saddles in fist class, now would you? No, I thought not.

Ladies and gentlemen, the insanity and laziness must stop, right here, right now. I have taken time out of my busy schedule to educate you all, now please, no more of this "seat" slang.

Anyone continuing this spout egregious faux pas shall be dealt with. And I assure you, the punishment shall be swift and harsh.

[h=2]Full Definition of SADDLE[/h]1
a (1) : a girthed usually padded and leather-covered seat for the rider of an animal (as a horse) (2) : a part of a driving harness comparable to a saddle that is used to keep the breeching in place
b : a seat to be straddled by the rider of a vehicle (as a bicycle)

I hear you, albeit it is hard with that vein in your neck popping out. The issue with the motorcycle world is that most of the use seat, not saddle.

But why do they call storage compartments on bicycles and motorcycles "saddlebags" ?

Thank you.

I've contacted all the bike and component manufacturers by telephone and demanded that they begin using the terms "Saddle Tube" when making frame references and "Saddle Post" when making reference to the post that supports the saddle. I was assured that they would discuss it with upper management and get back to me. There seemed to be a lot of laughing on the other end of the line though. Very unprofessional.

google is not the expert here, I am.

It's the general seating area they are talking about. And on that area, a saddle has been mounted.
