Garmin Connect double-reporting rides, have I set a speed sensor up wrong?
Hi all,
I've been using Garmin Connect with a Forerunner 35 fine for a while, but today I added a Garmin speed sensor 2 to get speed/distance for use on the turbo trainer, added it to my Forerunner and then added it toGarmin Connect to set the wheel size. Did my first run today and on completion I ended up with 2 cycles logged, one about 5 seconds and 0.5km longer than the other, and in viewing them in Connect it shows 1 Forerunner and 2 speed sensors under the devices.
So have I set it up wrong? Is the fact the sensor is registered with both the device and the app causing it to count both separately, once through the Forerunner and once through the sensor?
Will I lose the tyre size configuration if I remove it from the app?
Many thanks.

Doesn't the activity say what device reported it? Sounds like a bug

When you say you added it to Garmin Connect. Was that actually the Garmin Connect App on your phone or was it the website?
I will have thought that if you can add a speed sensor to the Forerunner, then in it's settings somewhere you should be able to set the wheel size. You may have created what essentially looks to Garmin as a different bike. Might be they thought you were pretty skilled to ride two bikes at once. <grin>
But sometimes there might be a bug that gets created and has to be found.

The name of the activity file is (for some devices) the date and time the record button was pressed. Other devices use a name that encodes the date and time in fewer letters (the Forerunner might do this).
If you have two activities for one event (the session on the stationary bike), you (some how) have two files.
One file came from the Forerunner.
The other file came from another device.
It appears you have a second event (you went) running.
Did you record that event? If so, does that show up in Garmin Connect?

I know some of the newer devices save an activity, but this doesn't appear to be one of those. Is it possible that you were running garmin connect on your phone during this activity? The forerunner and your phone would both record. I assume the sensor can connect via bluetooth while it is connected with ant+. Although it wouldn't have to, the phone could just be using gps.
On my activities on the website, there is a giant picture of my 830 that takes up 1/3 of the screen.
Can you look at the activates on the website?

IIRC, same thing here -- The trip is recorded once from the watch, and once more from the sensor. I "think" that the reason is that 2nd gen sensors are treated as a distinct device. So it is as if you were wearing and syncing two watches.
There's probably a setting somewhere that you can use. I'd post on garmin forums.

However, what might be unexpected here is that the magnetless speed sensor actually has a bit of a party trick: It can record rides even when you don’t have an app or device actively connected to it. Yup, the little pod gained a brain and can now remember any rides you complete sans-GPS, transferring them to Garmin Connect (or even Strava) afterwards – perfect for bike commuters.
...but that in the meantime you can turn off the activity creation bit altogether if you want. Or, you could just disable the pairing to Garmin Connect Mobile

All this mystery would be solved if the OP would tell us what he sees on the website.
It's interesting that the garmin sales page doesn't mention that the sensor saves rides, or at least it doesn't do that right up front in the text I read before I got bored.

Sorry, haven't been on here for a few days.
I removed the pairing between the Garmin Connect App and the Speed Sensor and it's gone back to normal.
So it was a case of the forerunner recording a trip using the sensor, and the sensor recording the trip directly to the App. The App was either thrown by the times being different (I must have pedalled briefly after turning off the recording in the forerunner) or just doesn't do anything about overlapping reports.
Thanks all!
